A.R.C. Wk2 - Aphelion vs. Annoying Vert Rush

Post by Hooray For Lexan » Sat May 18, 2024 5:10 pm

STATS:

Aphelion (forks config): 7/6/2/4/11 (+1 front wedge)

Annoying Vert Rush (anti-wedge config): 8/6/2/3/11

STRATS:
We're almost even in drivetrains, he's slightly faster but has a little less control at top speed.

Go on the attack and stay on the attack. Ram him at high speeds if possible instead of trying to fence with forks at low speed. Our wedges are almost even but there's a good chance of wedge-locking if only some of his piano keys get under me, and if that happens I wanna hit hard and hopefully bounce apart instead of getting stuck in a stalemate pushing match. High closing speeds also make it easier to get enough bite for a flip and/or make us ramp over each other, but AVR's very low profile and has a weapon helping so I should be more likely to ramp jump than he is. If I do get wedged his drum will mostly pop me up and maybe pull me on top of his chassis. Try to J-turn off before that can happen, otherwise be ready to respond if I'm thrown off his top forwards or backwards.

Flip early and often, do not give him chances to escape my wedge. Obviously throw him out or try to feed him to the screws or high center him on the walls if I get a chance, but this is a slippery bot so I'll take what I can get.

Aphelion is a 2WD bot and it looks like those wheels don't fully contact the floor from all orientations. It also needs to self-right with its weapon. As a front-hinged flipper that will be more mechanically involved than if it used its natural curve to help self-right as a rear-hinged flipper. Also, whenever it fires its weapon with the forks, those forks will press into the floor and lift it off a bit so it's very committal with flipping.

-The plan is to try to keep control more often by exploiting those things.
-Try to fake out flips.
-Angle in and try to win the front game, but cautiously probe.
-Use the first opening I get to pile on hits. Get as many followups as I can while it's self-righting. Try to get it to the wall or corner to make it tough.
-If I get flipped, my slight speed edge should help me run away and reverse the drum to avoid followups.
-If Aphelion ever gets under, I should always have a wheel touching the floor keeping me slippery.
