Week 8 Results

Lightweights

Heat A: Grand International

Absolutely nobody RP'd. Oh dear. No points for anyone, I guess.

Heat B: Rollercoaster

Angel of the North's Run

AotN rockets out of the starting gate and up the ramp, coming to a stop at the top as it tilts down, then rolling onwards. Mole slows his bot to a crawl as he approaches the dreaded inverse camber curve. It's making it... Almost there... Oops... A jostle causes the bot to tip over, and neatly flip over, barely staying on course. Mole remains unfazed, rushing back onto the flat, and up the second ramp, having no issue with it, or the angled ramp, though the bot does seem rather jostled about. Up and on the bridge, Mole takes it slow around the cambered curve, managing to stay on track this time, though he slips off again going over the last set of trick track.

Final time: 1:29 + 2 penalties = 2:09

Mind in a P-R-O-G-R-A-M-'s Run

MIAP approaches the first ramp, heading up... and slips back down. Oh dear. Tri gives another attempt, getting more of a run up, but finds that MIAP just lacks the traction and torque to get far enough up the ramp. Oh dear.

Final time: Failed to finish

The Gourmet's Run

Gourmet goes up the ramp fairly quickly, letting it drop. Attackfrog has no issue with looping around the inverse camber curve, or the second ramp, though AotN's still making better time than The Gourmet is. Up and over the angled ramp, and the bridge, still with a clean slate. Attackfrog takes the second cambered corner slowly, and has little issue with the trick track, making it to the line in time.

Final time: 1:53 + 0 penalties = 1:53

THREE POINTS to The Gourmet, TWO to Angel of the North.

Heat C: 2v2 Combat

Alright, it's the final duel between Gabe and NFX. Probably. Override rushes at Endless Clowns immediately, but is popped over by the spinner. TRoS is doing it's own kind of thing, spinning in place, Traposphere going to wedge it about. Those two have their own duel, as Override attempts to get around Endless Clowns, getting tossed about by its spinner. Neither's able to do much damage to the other, though. Endless Clowns managed to catch Override's side on its wedge, slamming it into the corner for a bit, sticking it into the Pulveriser. Override escapes and continues the match in a similar manner, trying to outmaneuver Clowns. It does manage to get under at a point, sawing down for a bit, giving plenty of sparks but no proper damage. The buzzer eventually goes after a fairly aggressive duel.

Damage: 8-7 Override & The Revenge of Psychosprout
Aggression: 9-6 Override & The Revenge of Psychosprout
Strategy: 10-5 Endless Clowns & Traposphere

Your winner, by a 23-22 decision, are Endless Clowns and Traposphere, earning TWO POINTS!

Heavyweights

Heat A: 2v2 Combat

After some time to fix the miscommunication, Boy Band is in the arena for the first time. Shame it's the final week. Anyway, Boy Band starts off by rushing down Gigatron, bumping it up and into the back wall. Meanwhile, The Animals split and rush down Hercules, which manages to grab onto the green one, shoving it towards its partner, which has managed to escape Boy Band for now, spinning up once more. One rather vicious impact later, and the Animal has a noticeable L-shape, seemingly beached on itself as Attackfrog drops the carcass. Boy Band rushes back in, slamming Gigatron across the arena, but Herc takes Boy Band from behind, gripping down and managing to lift it clean into the air! Herc rushes to the wall, and a quick spin smacks Boy Band into the wall, setting them free briefly, before Herc pins them down once more and flips them up against the wall, out of commission. The other Animal has been trying to harass Gigatron, getting around its side, shoving TBR's bot across the arena. Herc comes over, attempting to bully the lone Animal around, though Mole plays evasive enough to dodge Herc until the buzzer goes.

Winner: Gigatron and Hercules by KO. They both earn THREE POINTS!

Heat B: Grand International

We've got a nicely filled out grid today, for once. We've got Compound Fracture jacked up on some mega wheels like those old RC cars that could drive inverted, Neuromancer being boring with a normal pointy nose, MiDAS facing the wrong direction, and LowRider totally absent. Let's get this show on the road!

The flag drops, and the bots are off! Neuromancer is first up the ramp, shortly followed by the other two, all three landing cleanly from the jump. The hay bale wall slows Neuromancer's rush, it plopping into the water and struggling to hobble over the bales as MiDAS and Compound Fracture fly clean overhead. CF has no problems with the rumble strip, whilst MiDAS' skirts and small wheels bounce about, slowing the machine down. Neuromancer comes free as CF makes its way to the second half of the course, MiDAS in hot pursuit. None of the bots have any issues with the fourth ramp, and CF takes the brunt of the hay bales this time, allowing MiDAS to sneak past, leading the pack by a fraction of a second as they turn the second corner. Neuromancer's starting to catch up though, only a second or two behind the pack as they jump the water drop for the second time, this time nobody falling into the hole due to the lack of hay bales. MiDAS is slowed once more over the rumble strip, allowing CF to make a reckless rush, monstertrucking up MiDAS, only to be thwarted by a strike from the axe. Neuromancer uses this spat as a chance to catch up, bringing the race tight once more. MiDAS swerves into the inside of the curve to pull ahead a bit more, heading over the final trio of ramps with no issue, though the other two are pulling in close, as all three cross the line incredibly close to one another! Looks like we'll need to check the replay to see who won this race!

1st: MiDAS, earning THREE POINTS!
2nd: Neuromancer, earning TWO POINTS!
3rd: Compound Fracture, earning ONE POINT!

Heat C: Rollercoaster

Oh boy, another one-RP heat. Heian Alien plods along the course to victory. They get THREE POINTS!

GROUP STAGE RESULTS

Lightweights

Starting with Heat A, third place (There's no fourth place in this heat) goes to Solstice, with a total score of 12 points. It had a strong start in the first half of the event, but dropped off during the latter end of the season. Second goes to Teardrop, with 14 points, proving consistent across most events, but only getting two wins under its belt. The winner of Heat A, qualifying for the finals with 18 points, is Ramshock!

Heat B ended up being a three horse race as well, Honeycomb only earning points by proxy, putting it square in last place with 3 points. Third place goes to Angel of the North, with 9 points, struggling in most of the trials it attended. Second goes to Mind in a P-R-O-G-R-A-M, amassing a total of 16 points, dominating in some events but struggling immensely in others. This means that our second finalist, with a score of 20 points, is The Gourmet!

Heat C proved to be a fierce two horse race, The Revenge of Psychosprout and Traposphere left in the dust with 2 and 5 points respectively. NFX and Gabe have fought one another fiercely throughout the tournament, only a two point difference between them. With 17 points, second place ended up going to Endless Clowns, with Override taking our tertiary spot in the finals.

The wildcard vote for Lightweights concluded in a tie, between all three of our heat runners-up. I'm electing to tiebreak by comparing the scores of the bots, which puts Endless Clowns in as the Wild Card.

Heavyweights

Heat A again only had three results. Third goes to Gigatron, with 10 points, which again put in a valiant effort and disappeared for half the season. Second goes to The Animals, with 15 points, of which its clusterbot design proved terrifyingly effective in trials, though floundering in more combative events. Our first finalist, with a score of 21 points, is Hercules, its unusual design proving effective at manipulating the trials in its favour.

Heat B was by far the most competitive heat of them all, containing four bots that I personally reckon would individually win any other heat. Fourth place goes to LowRider, with 4 points, a decent machine that got unlucky in its pairings. Joint second place goes to both Neuromancer and Compound Fracture, with 15 points each, leaving our winner, with 19 points, to be MiDAS.

Heat C was a rather dull one, with only two participants consistently RPing. Helepolis takes fourth with one point, only beaten out by Heartbreaker, on 2 points, which acquired them by beating them on a coin flip. Second goes to Arm of the Law, with 16 points, beaten out by our so far highest scorer, Heian Alien, with 22 points, only 2 off of a perfect score.

Our vote again ended in a tie between Neuromancer and LowRider. Tiebreaking again on points, Neuromancer enters the finals!

Finals Week 1

Eyy, I stopped being lazy and/or doing overtime, so I can write this!

Lightweights: King of the Hill

Cock, I forgot to convey the positioning order. (For reference, the order going clockwise is Ramshock, Gourmet, Override, Endless Clowns.) I'll fix this in later instances of the event, sorry!

Aaaaaanyway, we've got three bots today. Gabe's a tad busy, unfortunately. Override's rocking out with its saw arm out, Ramshock has the wedge popped up, and The Gourmet has seemingly nothing special planned for the event. Let's gooooooooooo!

All three bots rocket out of the starting line, Override and Gourmet both rushing for the same flag, as Ramshock tries to take Gourmet's other flag. Override's reach allows it to poke over the flag, just before Gourmet gets to it, whilst Ramshock claims Gourmet's other split flag. Oh dear. Attackfrog just works on claiming their last flag, so they don't get no points. Meanwhile, Ramshock and Override turn back to grab their own flags, Override just about pipping Ramshock to the post, as both begin rushing for the last flag, neither having an issue with the steepness of the slope. Override's lead, and longer arm, proves effective enough to pop over the flag before Ramshock gets to it, securing the win for NFX!

T H R E E P O I N T S to Override, 2 to Ramshock, 1 to The Gourmet.

Heavyweights: Wetropolis

Coming soon...

Next week...

Lightweights: Rollercoaster

Heavyweights: King of the Hill (Red: Hercules, Blue: MiDAS, Green: Heian Alien, Yellow: Neuromancer)

Deadline: September 21st
