Welcome, those that made the cut, to phase 2 of the signup process. As previously stated, this thread will hold all 12 teams' bots. My own team will be put up early, so you know what sorta format you should expect, but the other 11 teams will all only go public once I have all of their finalized info together. Contact the TO privately over Discord with the following to get your team ready for the reveal:
  • Writeups and renders for the three bots they intend to enter (Images with transparent backgrounds are recommended, feel free to send multiple if you prefer.)
  • A team banner, like the ones segmenting this entire post. 1200px wide, maximum of 200px tall.
  • Any other materials they wish to be included in their team writeup.
These writeups will all be converted into team writeups, and posted simultaneously, alongside the first round fight card. The deadline for this phase of signups will be Monday, August 31st. If teams fail to submit their signups at this point, the remaining slots will open up to others from the first phase that did not make the cut, in a first come first serve basis, so even if you don't make the cut, don't let that stop you from iterating on your designs!

Edginess aside, HYB's back. Been a while since they've cropped up, being CBC3, with a deep runner-up run. This time, though, she's sporting a new, more durable tribar config for extra range when needed, a reworked chassis design allowing for precise inverted movement, and a redistributed drivetrain, granting the inverted blade a downwards angle.

Woo, The Residents reference bot! Basic Two-wheel drive Undercutter with an internally belt-driven bar and a little dome-piece thing on said bar like Texas Twister has. The little black metal nub on the top of the bulkhead is removable so it can be ran either as an angled spinner without it or an Overcutter with it. Those black bits are just painted on, they are not removable teeth so they shouldn't fly off. The weapon should get a +4 armour bonus because it's shorter than the wheelbase and doesn't make over a third of the mass.

Two-wheel driven LP-Pneumatic flipping arm (only the black and white bit is the arm). The drive isn’t too torquey so it shouldn’t wheelie and it doesn’t have much room to wheelie anyway with the guard on the back. Is invertible thanks to the stopper ‘horns’ on top and also has stopper eyes like it’s little brother. The flag is purely for decoration and it will come off easily. The Flipping-Arm has around about Forty-degrees of travel. Wedgelets on main body are hinged with limited degrees of travel.

Swordfish 3

The fishbot is back again. The original Swordfish mated with an Xbox and this is the unnatural hybrid offspring of that forbidden union. It's got some (lovingly rendered) omniwheels and two configurations: forks and plows. Both are tilt-limited so the feesh can't drive up on top of them by accident.

Stats: 8 Speed / 7 Traction / 1 Torque / 5 Weapon / 9 Armor [+2 plows (plow configuration) or flipper (fork configuration)]

Image
Speed Bison

Image Image Image Image Image Image

A 4WD lifter with racing stripes for +1 speed. Instead of lifting the plow on an arm, it has its front wheels on arms which rotate downwards to lift the entire body up (check the top-down picture for a better idea of the pivot point.) The wheel-arms can rotate 360 degrees to self-right the robot if it gets flipped (although in practice this might also require some torque from the drivetrain.) It has two configurations: a three-pronged fork and a wide plow, both of which are shock-mounted to the chassis.

Stats: Speed: 7 / Traction: 6 / Torque: 3 / Weapon: 2 / Armor: 12 (+1 plow/fork)

A 3WD horizontal spinner with wedgelets on the side. Yeah, it's sideways too. (I like my Sinmill render more than I like this render, but Whirlpool's design is more fun to RP for so it gets to be my token spinner design for The DIrty Dozen.)

The rear of the robot is taller than the front.

As a result, it's tilted when inverted.

Rise from the darkness...

Icebreaker
The first arrives from the northernmost pole...

Icebreaker is a full pressure, 6 wheel drive flipper akin to the likes of Sub-Zero and Bronco. All the wedgelets are independently hinged, as is the flipper. The wheelguards are made to still allow the wheels to touch the ground when wedged from the side or front. The flipper has enough power in it to self-right easily when flipped.

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Weapon: 5
Armor: 9

Icebreaker has a configuration made for dealing with horizontal spinners. In this configuration, a blunted flipper arm is used and the flipper is tuned down to allow for the large front plow

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Weapon: 3
Armor: 11 (+2 plow)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Project SNAFU
The next comes from the tides of war...

SNAFU is back after a full redesign, but still has the same wonky feel of the old one! Improvements include 4 wheel drive, wedges surrounding the body (limited, so they won't flip up into the blade's path), and an actual understanding of how stats work in ARC.

Speed: 4
Traction: 2
Torque: 1
Weapon: 16
Armor: 7

Alternate config: Removing all the wedges for more reach against undercutters with the following stats

Speed: 4
Traction: 2
Torque: 1
Weapon: 13
Armor: 10 (+3 bar)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Precision Engine
The last, made in a madman's lab...

Finally, I have Precision Engine. It's your standard controlbot affair. Two separately controlled jaws, angle-limited wedgelets to prevent tipping, invertibility, and most of all, style! Although it's the least proven of this bunch, I'm sure it won't disappoint in the end, especially now that it has that 'armor' thing.

Speed: 8
Traction: 7
Torque: 3
Weapon: 4 (3 top jaw/3 bottom jaw)
Armor: 8

This also has an alternate config, swapping out the jaws for an armored lifting plow. There are rigid piece attached directly to the body to prevent tipping in this configuration.

Speed: 8
Traction: 7
Torque: 3
Weapon: 1
Armor: 11 (+3 plow)

Symmetrical Blade Config:

Speed: 4

False Edge Config:
Weapon: 15
Armor: 8 (+1 weapon)

Skoll is back, now rebuilt as an undercutter. The 30" long, 37 lb scythe-shaped bar spins at about 2700 rpm, storing around 35 kJ of energy. The design is asymmetric, but it's a "1.5-toothed" shape where at higher closing speeds the counterweight side starts coming into play. And if the back side doesn't bit much and glances then the scythe tooth will come around and hit HARD.

Blade is 5/8" off the ground upright, 3-1/2" to 4-1/2" off the ground (depending on approach angle because it's not perfectly level) when inverted. Spin direction can be reversed by turning the blade over.

Two alternate blades are also available, with basically the same diameter. The False Edge Blade is also a "1.5-toothed" blade, but it uses a thicker shape for maximum durability against high-powered weapons. The main side is also longer compared to the counterweight side (3" longer vs. 1.5" longer for the normal scythe) and has less exposed perimeter at large radii, making it harder for vertical spinners to uppercut. However it has a lower Moment of Inertia due to the weight distribution and doesn't store as much energy. The Symmetrical Blade is just that: symmetrical. Its weight and moment of inertia are almost identical to the scythe, but with two teeth. Both of these blades are reversible mid-fight for matches where spin direction is important.

Skoll's drivetrain uses brushless motors and P80 gearboxes, and has about a 9 mph top speed. The wheels are molded silicone compliant wheels; these aren't meant to take direct spinner hits but the springiness will help avoid damaging the axles or gearboxes when hitting the floor or wall hard, which is a risk as horizontals like to throw themselves around. The wheel diameter and position means a drive wheel will touch the ground at any angle of sideways or backwards tilt.

Hati

Sword Config:

Shield Config:
Image

Flail/hammer blocker config:
Image

Speed: 8
Traction: 7
Torque: 3
Weapon: 0
Armor: 12

After getting Blue Max'd in Robot2, Hati's back with some serious upgrades including brushless drive, custom-molded wheels, and two interchangeable options for shock-mounted wedges. The "sword" config has two long prongs to help outreach opponents' forks, and is fully invertible. The "shield config" uses a plow optimized to deflect horizontal spinners and keep them far away from the wheels. Hati's still invertible in this config, although the wedge isn't effective. The plow is 6" tall, which should keep most horizontal spinners away. However, the shield config can also add a big ol' block of UHMW to raise its height to 9", which is an inch taller than the wheels. Flails can die in Helheim. Still invertible, although faceplanting could be a risk.

The signature spring-loaded ears are a thing of the past. Hati's ears are now just floppy foam, and will NOT get her stuck on her back.

Speed: 7

Weapon: 4 (Snake-style clamp/lifter OR just a lifter)
Armor: 11 (+1 bonused area)

CONFIGS:
Clamp Config: Wedgelet pontoons and the lifting forks (up to the clamp axle) receive armor bonus.
Lifter with Plow Config: Plow receives armor bonus.
Lifter with Wedgelets and Shock-Mounted Top Plate: Anti-Hammer top plate receives armor bonus, wedgelets do NOT.

Back Throw kills at 0%!

Defenestrator is a clampbot with a long arm and a long range of motion, designed for high-altitude suplexes which can send an opponent over some arena walls. Like Dagu Snake the main lift sprocket isn't actually directly connected to the arm, and instead drives the clamp arm in the opposite direction until it's stopped by either an opponent or the lower "jaw," at which point it "jams" and the entire arm lifts upward. However, Defenestrator uses a pair of leaf chains (what Beta uses for its "snail drive") instead of gears, letting the lift and clamp axles be mounted farther apart. The gear ratio is 1:1 but because of how much shorter the clamp arm is, it clamps down with over 500 lbf when lifting a 220 lb opponent. The arm has a 180 degree range of motion, and when rapidly reversing it the opponent's momentum can backdrive the clamp open for a rapid back throw.
The arm can also self-right the bot. Note that when bringing it back over, initially the clamp opens all the way, pushing the arm up a little bit.

The clamp arm is HEAVY! It's over 1/4 of Defenestrator's weight. However, this can be swapped out for a much lighter arm without the clamp part - it does have hooks on the top to help grapple opponents, though. This arm can be safely put on the floor behind the bot without affecting traction, keeping it out of reach of opponents' weaponry. Using the lightweight arm frees up enough weight for a big front plow to deal with horizontal spinners. Both the plow and the wedgelets are hinged, with a small range of motion and shock mounts to give their up and down motion some compliance.

Fresh from finally taking its long-awaited title back in CBC4, Ice Cubed Robotics' flagship machine returns to the ring to have some fun! Sleek and agile as ever, Dreadnought's got the tough ARMOX plate setups to resist even the strongest of weapons, the fast and strong drivetrain and assortment of wedge tips (including Black Diamond-esque sawtooth spikes and hinged forks) to keep almost anyone in check, and of course, the classic front-hinged flipper with the (very) long list of bots that it's flipped out of the arena to its name. Nine years on, and still raring to prove there's no challenge he can't overcome!

Hinged wedgelets are limited to moving 5-10 degrees downward to stop them folding up underneath the front, and are optional -- capable of being swapped for a solid version of the front wedge also made of Armox, or a row of small spiked sawtooth wedge teeth along the front for fighting other wedges.
Is named after H.M.S. Dreadnought (S101), the United Kingdom's first nuclear-powered submarine. The robot bears the vessel's badge on its flipper (as well as the flag of Lincolnshire) as a reference to this.

Black Diamond
(Cherry Bomb Classic 3 HW Winner)
Image
Yesterday's enemy becomes today's friend! Originally operating under The Monsterworks, Black Diamond joins Ice Cubed Robotics for double the flippers and double the fun! A Bigger Brother-style scoop flipper with plenty of punting power (and can easily self-right the bot from pretty much any angle if turned over), strong protection from its large armoured scoop, a speedy drivetrain with whitewall tyres, and of course, it's still got the nice black/gold/white aesthetic that keeps it shiny and pretty... even as it's kicking your head in! So don't cross him... or he'll really tarnish your hopes.

Speed: 8
Traction: 6
Torque: 2
Weapon: 5
(Rear-hinged Pneumatic Scoop Flipper with removeable/interchangeable wedge teeth)
Armour: 9

Notes: Can quickly and easily self-right. Has an overhead bar for blocking attacks from things like clamps/crushers and axes, the +5 Weapon Bonus for extra protection, and any/all of the teeth on the scoop are removeable. BD originally fought and beat Dreadnought Mk4 when under Team Monsterworks back in the CBC3 finals; as a worthy (former) opponent in hindsight, it's one big reason why I've got the two going on a team this time!

Jackal
(FRR No Mercy MW Winner)
Image
Making its return from taking home the title way back in FRR No Mercy and its decent run back in CBC3, Jackal is back and once again ready to show the young'uns here how it's done. Completely overhauled internally since last time, it's now much faster with stronger weapons (adding plenty of ballast at the back to stop it tipping over forward when it lifts up), while still maintaining its usual great torque and protection to make keeping its opponents under control a breeze. It also has a new armoured config for when it needs even more protection against the deadliest of weapons! Improved in almost every way from last time, this brutal desert marauder is enough to make any bot screech!

STANDARD
(Assume this as the default unless otherwise stated)
Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 4
Weapon: 4
(180-degree Electric Lifting Scoop with Overhead Flipper/Srimech/Clamp/Hammer Bar running off the same mechanism. Can be switched for either an Anti-Vert Jackal Head and dedicated Hammer Setup, or the Hammers and the Scoop.)
Armour: 9

ARMOURED
Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 4
Weapon: 1
(same as above, just heavier/less powerful in return for stronger front armour)
Armour: 12 (+2 to front scoop, so 14/9)

Notes: Can quickly and easily self-right using either the forward or back swing of the top bars. The weapons run off the same mechanism (thus letting them bypass the Multiple Weapon Rule), and are tethered in a way that lets the scoop lift up alone, or both to swing forward; ala Sewer Snake or Tormenta 3. The Jackal head is designed to not tip forward, however (letting it press/stay flush with the ground as the axes swing over) and the machine has plenty of ballast at the back to stop it tipping over forward when it lifts something. Is named and themed after the MWMIK 'Jackal' armoured vehicle, currently in service with the British Army.

Mostly the same bot, but with a meaner paint job. Also, the bar is slightly longer and I've traded the teeth for a sharp edge for this bar to cut through those armored wedges/plows/sloped surfaces. Of course, just like Tombstone, it can drive just fine inverted. I also kept the angled back from S1 Tombstone so it can't get stranded on its back.

I can adjust for different opponents by starting inverted to work more as an overcutter and can also run my blade in either direction, as well.

4WD monstrous RH flipper with aesthetic horns that easily come off during battle. Also, spikes on the sides & wheels that protrude out the rear to prevent any 'stranding' situations.
