Ruination: The Upheaval - sign-ups

Post by That Kode Guy » Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:18 pm

I'm reposting this thread because the other thread is full of dead entrants and I want fresher entrants. The other thread has been moved to Old Signups in case there are pictures/stats/descriptions there you want saved.

Image

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY: FEBRUARY 24TH, 2018 (11:59pm)

TOURNAMENT START: MARCH 2ND, 2018 (11:59pm) :V

Banned robots
Flying robots
Hovercrafts
Clusterbots that don't have the same motivation in all their parts
<del>Underall</del>

Sign-up Info

- Everyone enters a total of four bots, one from each weight class (Lightweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight, Superheavyweight) and assigns them stats using 30 points per bot. Points will be divvied up by 5 categories:

-Speed
-Traction
-Torque
-Armour
-Weapon Power

The battles will take place in a Round Robin style with playoffs afterward to determine the champion of each weight class.

Role Play Rules

- You'll be expected to follow proper role-play etiquette; no directly referencing others RPs, whether in your reply RP, or bringing it up in the discussion thread. If you don't trust the staff's bullshit detectors, don't play.

- As a follow up to this, absolutely NO being completely arrogant, either in your RPs or in the discussion thread (i.e. "I'll probably pwn this guy all over the place"). This also applies to public complaining about results. Okay, if you want to know why you didn't win, you're perfectly fine with posting about it in the discussion thread, as long as there is some good degree of reasonability to it (which the staff will determine, not you). But don't piss and shit all over the discussion thread or the Discord servers with "how the fuck did I lose to him, that's retarded" or similar comments. You will get suspended from the tournament for the next week (maybe even the forum), have any RP threads you put up be ignored/deleted, and automatically go 0-4 for that week.

- As a SECOND follow up to this, there has been an upswing of unneeded internet drama on the forums regarding tournaments. If there's any, and I mean any overblown drama about the tournament, whoever caused it and/or kept it going (at staff discretion) forfeit that week. Don't be a douchebag on the forums; keep your bullshit on Facebook or Skype or whatever the fuck you use for chatting. Consider yourself warned.

- Be concise, but specific; you have a 400 word RP limit to work with. It will be a soft limit... and by soft, I mean that if you go over by what the writers determine is okay, then you're toast. :v:

- Use proper grammar and spelling - This isn't college, but no one is going to read an RP written entirely in leetspeak or whatever the fuck it is you kids do these days.

- Do not spend too long talking about stats/design - RPs are your strategy. The writers here aren't stupid, they've been around for awhile and can see when a stat allocation is poor or a design simply won't work. Instead focus on what you plan to do during the fight. If you are RPing for a full-bodied spinner you honestly shouldn't have to write more than "spin up and hit him, while staying away from the walls."

- Fight cards will be posted on Sunday usually (as are results, mostly), and you will have one week to post your RPs. If the fight card is, for whatever reason, late, you will still have a full week to RP.

Guidelines

Ruination has its own league guidelines which slightly differ from the main ruleset. Find it here.

Arenas

1. The Battlegrounds

Image
Practically identical to the ARC Arena, except there are no spike strips, wedged walls, or drum.

Image
I'm sure you recognize these things by now. They do big impact damage. However...

Image
...pointy variants! They instantly punch a hole in your bot, depending on your armour. If you have pretty high armour, it'll take a few hits.

Image
A perennial favourite, the killsaws. Will do low to moderate damage. Tires and tracks beware.

2. Casino Night Zone (v2.0)

Image
Not changed too much, eh?

Image
This little piggy hits harder than the hammers in the Battlegrounds.

Image
The bumper returns. Only one now, and it's in the corner. Slightly less powerful than the hammer, but it packs a wallop.

Image
Of course, these things stay the exactly the same. The flippers knock you away and the spring, should you hit it, will fling you across the arena!

Image
And to top it all off... the slots return as well. Get three of the same character in a row, and the hazards become 1.5x more powerful! However, this time you have to drive over your opponent's square to activate them.

3. Land of Confusion

Image
So good, it returns practically unchanged.

Image
Yep, those construction panels are powerful floor flippers. There's 6 of them in all. And those conveyors can lead right into them. They're unpredictable and they're fast.

Image
And of course, we can't forget these guys. However, the steam jets in the blue circles have been replaced by high-speed spikes that jut up from the ground. Kind of like the Battlebots Ram Rods, or the spikes in Robot Wars Series 3. The red circles, of course, still house flamethrowers. Just to look cool.

There are no OOTAs in any arena, sorry flippers. :v:

Thanks to Nick Fisher for rendering both the Battlegrounds and the Land of Confusion arenas for me.

Note #1: Administrators reserve the right to modify a bot's individual stats based on discrepancies with the picture of the design. The administrators also have the right to reject any robot submission, stat allocation or design aspect that is considered to be unfair or exploiting the rules in any way.

Note #2: As stated in the Ruination guidelines, armour bonuses are different here. When stacking armour bonuses onto a robot, deduct the triangle number of however many points you're adding from your main Armour.

So +1/-1, +2/-3, +3/-6, +4/-10 and so forth.

Examples:

Pursuit has 9 armour. He puts +1 on his rear plow, giving the plow 10 armour and leaving the body with 8.
Mimete has 10 armour. She puts +2 on the rear plow, giving it 12 armour and leaving the body with 7.
Shadow Zone Forever has 8 armour. It puts +3 on the rear wedge, giving it 11 armour and leaving the rest at a paltry 2.
Sleipnir has 10 armour. It can't give a +4 to its front wedge because, even though its front would be 14 armour, the body would be 0 and that is illegal.

Note #3: As stated in the Ruination guidelines, speed is different in this tournament.

Previously, speed was based on a linear scale, where 8 is twice as fast as 4. No longer.

Speed now has a constant of 2 units, with 1 unit for every point added in speed. No robot can have a speed less than 1 point (3 units).

For example, a 4 speed robot (6 units) would be twice as fast as a robot with 1 speed (3 units), and a robot with 10 speed (12 units) would be twice as fast as a robot with 4 speed (6 units).

Previously, metres per second (m/s) or miles per hour (mph) were used as units of measurement, but since certain people were getting pedantic about realism, there are no specified units, just a "unit". :v:

If you really, REALLY want something to go off of, just say 1 unit = 2 miles per hour.

Torque works with speed as it usually does, so no changes there.

Note #4: The staff for this tournament are as follows:

Tournament Organizer
Kody Kunz (KodeBreaker)

Co-Organizer
Josh Noel (NWOWWE)

Writing Staff
Nick Fisher (NFX)
Dylan McCarthy (Badnik96)
Gabe Hopp (The_Angry_Goat)
Nick Schuch (BEES)
Bradley Maier (Cha0sFerret)
Hooray For Lexan
Danielle Flannery (Shaba117)
Noah ??? (V900)
Jack ??? (attackfrog)
Laz (Madman)

Note #5: For the Ruination series of tournaments (it's not an official ARC rule) starting here, there is going to be a blanket ban on robots with dumb/offensive names. And by dumb, I mean along the lines of edgy or meme crap just for the sake of having a meme. If you want to persist in having your robot named that, either change it somewhat, or abbreviate it in the official sign-ups so it's not so dumb. I (and by extension the rest of the writers) don't want to have to type out dumb names over and over again in results.

If you have any questions/concerns, whether it be about a match, the structure of the tournament, or why I even brought this back up, please feel free to contact me.

Speed: 8 | Traction: 8 | Torque: 4 | Armour: 10 (+2 plow) | Weapon: LOL

tl;dr: It's an X-shaped brick. That does bricky stuff.

Slightly more detailed: 4WD X-shaped brick. Has front forks on an axle, they work the same inverted. Has a rear plow, also hinged, but does not work inverted.

Image

Speed: 5 | Traction: 5 | Torque: 2 | Armour: 9 | Weapon: 9

4WD, gigantic fucking flipper that's very low to the ground. Has optional spikes on the wheelpods as pictured, to prevent wider bots from scurrying over the flipper before getting tossed. Kinda weak to spinners but the design tends to lend itself to that and adding a plow kind of hurts the design.

Heavyweight
Devil's Verdict

Speed: 4 | Traction: 4 | Torque: 1 | Armour: 9 | Weapon: 12 (clamps 1/arm 1/saw 10)

2WD dustpan bot. The pneumatic claws come down to pin a bot in the pan while the saw arm does the dirty work. Inner limiters prevent the claws and saw arm from hitting the pan. Can obvs self-right.

Name comes from one of Avatar Corbenik's attacks in .hack//G.U.

Superheavyweight
Tax Cutter

Image

Image

Speed: 3 | Traction: 2 | Torque: 1 | Armour: 7 (+1 weapon) | Weapon: 17

2WD undercutter that functions like an overcutter when inverted. Bad-ass body shape, bad-ass blade, and some bad-ass vent lights courtesy of Monsterworks. It's all shiny. Lacks the reach of previous iterations of Tax Cutter but gains a bit more stability due to wheel placement.

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

Speed: 15
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 0
Armor: 10 (+2 thwack head)

2WD thwack. Wheels are at ~60 degree angles from the center, and cambered to maintain traction. Its purposefully low torque and horribly placed wheels pretty much guarantee that it'll never reach anything close to its top speed in linear movement - the wheel placement alone would theoretically put its actual top forward speed around 6-7 if I can drag some Physics 101 and the new speed scale into this, and such low torque means it would take a while to reach that speed - but as far as rotational movement goes, top speed is no problem. The tail is hinged.

Weapon: 1

2WD overhead thwack. Has a bunch of tiny indents in the wedge to reduce the amount of wedge touching the ground, thereby making the rest of the wedge extra effective at wedging. The thwack head has spiked sides for a horizontal thwacking option, and a small tooth to grab on to the backs of plows and the like. The weapon point goes to a clutch that allows me to hold the thwack tail in place at whatever point of its arc it's in.

Speed: 4
Traction: 1
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14 (3 arm / 11 saw [12 effective thanks to saw rules])
Armor: 10 (+1 each side wedge)

4WD bot with a MASSIVE SAW. It has to be in all caps. It just doesn't work otherwise. Anyway, this monstrosity was inspired by IRL sawbot Pitter Patter. It's basically just Pitter Patter with mecanum wheels, hinged side wedges, and a GIANT FREAKIN' SAW. Can drive inverted, reliably self-right (and self-invert) with the saw arm, and did I mention that it has an ENORMOUS SAW?

Mecanum wheels supplied by a certain Floating Castle Robotics on TinkerCAD (Monsterworks/Madman).

Interchangeable crusher/vertical spinner/horizontal spinner on a lifting arm. for the horizontal spinner's lifter arm: downwards range of 6.5* before a physical limit stops it (to prevent interference with the top of the chassis), upward range of 20* before the spring prevents further travel (so self-righting is questionable, but still possible). spring on the back is high-tensile and designed such that its resting point is when the spinner is exactly horizontal, while still allowing for some travel of the arm below that point if I want to angle the spinner slightly. Gear driven lifter since I apparently have to specify things that should be obvious.

Speed: 6 / Traction: 4 / Torque: 1 / Weapon: 13 (15 (13+2 weapon bonus) in crusher form) / Weapon: 1 (Lifter) / Armor: 5 (+1 lifter arm and weapon (just weapon in HS form))

I had to. Horizontal steveOUT style undercutter - 4 inches of reach off the back, 9 to the front (so don't you be makin' jokes about its reach). Front wedge is shock mounted, so it'll actually get under you while resisting blows from those midcutters that're supposed to counter me. rear wheels chain driven, obvs. Wedge is removable to add 3 more inches of reach.

Uses a onboard air compressor a la Chimera V and Neophyte Redglare to power it's flipper, and it's electronics, components, and all that fancy shiz are located in it's red cylindrical main chassis.

So yeah, pretty much Yeti, and it can self-right using gyroscopic forces, and has a pair of anti-ZK thingamabobs on the sides to prevent it getting stranded on it's side. Coming back from the quartefinals of Robot Fight Night: Season 1, looking exactly the same as it was before--this robot is definitely not a projection of my democratic socialist revolutionary beliefs onto my fantasy robot combat team, no sir. 4WD Chomp-style hammer with a hinged anti-spinner scoop in the front. Pretty standard, alright spinner killer, and has ground clearance.

Also, the hammer is electrically powered via motors, so it can repeatedly whack at <del>spooks</del> other robots without worrying about pneumatic shenanigans and whatnot.

3WD trackball melty thwack. Basically uncontrollable, I'd give this thing negative traction if I could. Hope you like getting smacked with a 60lb spinning 16-speed death ball if you try to box rush it, though. :dirk:

Default setup has a bunch of chains with some heavy maces on the end for long-range damage (such as if I need to bypass a brick's 13+ armor plow).
Other setup has hinged teeth that can freely rotate 10 degrees in each direction.

Has mecanum wheels for omni-directional movement, as many interchangeable setups as I'm allowed to enter, and the most obnoxious stats I could muster up. Front setups and rear plow are both hinged and can freely rotate 15 degrees in each direction.

Oh yeah, and I purposely put a plow on the back of the wood setup because of Kody's MW.

HS with angled wheels. Slow, bulky, and able to 1-shot most opponents with ease. The wheel setup should make turning easier.

LW: Electric Agression

Image

Electric Agression is a 4WD robot that relies on strategy, it has two weapons which are the jaws that open and close to either lift or clamp, the secodary weapon is a control spinning disc that has enough power to flick the opponent instead of damaging the opponent (if the armour is weaker.). The armour is titanium, features powerful drive motors to help the robot speed around the arena. The robot has a rear feeder wedge as a defence. The robot can run inverted.

Speed: 6
Torque: 2
Traction: 6
Armor: 11 (+1 rear wedge)
Weapon: 5 (3/3/3 split between drum and jaws)

MW Instigator

Image

Instigtor is a 2WD tracked robot with a 4 bar lifter, the front of the robot has a feeder wedge to help get underneath the opposition, The chassis is a low profile wedge to avoid any exposed areas. The confguration is an anti spinner, the config also has an extension tip for the lifter. Instigator can self right.

Speed: 8 Traction: 7 Weapon 2 Torque 3 Armour: 10 (Plow +1)

HW - Dysprosinator

Image

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Armour: 12
Weapon: 2

This robot is designed to handle/tank opponents that have a spinning weapon, the robot is 2WD with tank threads for locomotion, also there to prevent the robot from rebounding away from the impact of spinners. Render was made by V900

The top armament showing the tracks is covered in Polycarbonate, the rest is metal. The weapon is an electric powered lifter which features wedglets in front, the robot itself can also self right.

Possibly the strongest weapon on the Chem EX line. this is certainly one to fear, it's a 2WD track driven robot and has a wedge to help get underneath and defend from behind. The wedge is an attachment for wedege to wedge battles and against spinners or spinning weapons. the robot can run inverted too.

LW: Tidal Wave II

Some day this'll win a championship i swear. Drum spinner, drum can go either way and it works perfectly fine upside down (albiet it doesn't have the skids to feed into the weapon). The shields are removable in matches I think they won't be needed (mostly against non-spinners). There is also a bit of "dead area" built into the tops of the weapon supports. They can be dented inwards without damaging the systems in place to spin the drum

Tenative stats:
Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14
Armour: 6

MW: Remi IV
Image

Shit, its this again. 3 Toothed drum spinner, tread drive. Y'all know the deal by now. Wheels flanking the drum aren't powered, but make it so the drum doesn't hit the floor when inverted. Underscoop can be removed in matchups I don't want it.

Tenative stats:
Speed: 4
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14
Armour: 7

HW:
Flandre Scarlett

Think Son of Whyachi meets Weeb. Son of Weebachi. Uses a three-pad shuffling system on each side to move and has a big spinning cage o death for anyone that gets close. The massive whirling cage should keep this right way up after impacts.

Tenative stats:
Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14
Armour: 8

In the Lightweight division,...
Pinstripe

Image Image

A mecanum-drive vertical spinner with style. The front plow is hinged, but won't flop far enough to get in the way of the wheels. It runs okay inverted as well, resting on those white supports behind the spinner. The spinner itself is a single-tooth design.

Speed: 5
Traction: 3
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14
Armor: 7 (+1 plow)

In the Middleweight division,...
The Maw

Image Image Image Image Image

It's evil, it's hungry, and it doesn't need eyes to find and devour your robot's eternal soul. It's got tracks and a spring-powered horizontal ramming plow with lots of sharp teeth. The plow is effectively hinged: the two pistons, which retract it after firing, have some slack to move up and down. It obviously can't self-right but the teeth on top of the plow can get underneath things just as well as the ones on the bottom.

Speed: 7
Traction: 5
Torque: 3
Weapon: 5
Armor: 10 (+1 plow, which also gets +2 weapon armor)

In the Heavyweight division,...
Sinmill

Image Image Image

A horizontal spinner, but sideways! The three-bar weapon spins on a ring around a third wheel. This design should avoid some of the problems of traditional Tombclones, such as being difficult to turn and being spun sideways by the torque reaction from spinning up. It even runs just as well upside down.

Speed: 4
Traction: 2
Torque: 1
Weapon: 15
Armor: 8

And finally, in the Superheavyweight Division,...
Speed Bison

Image Image Image Image Image Image

A 4WD lifter with racing stripes for +1 speed. Instead of lifting the plow on an arm, it has its front wheels on arms which rotate downwards to lift the entire body up (check the top-down picture for a better idea of the pivot point.) The wheel-arms can rotate 360 degrees to self-right the robot if it gets flipped (although in practice this might also require some torque from the drivetrain.) It has two configurations: a three-pronged fork and a wide plow, both of which are shock-mounted to the chassis.

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Weapon: 2
Armor: 12 (+1 plow/fork)

Lightweight:

Some music, because this bot is totally fly, dude, and it's ice themed.

Hoarfrost III

So, it's a 2WD wedge that isn't just a short triangular slice of cheese. It has massive wheels and a heavy front plow mounted at an angle so that it always rests on its wheels and the tip of its wedge both ways up. Why the weird shape?? So it has more weight forward and doesn't wheely while staying actually invertible. That, and I just like the aesthetic. Wedges are boring. This one at least looks different.

Image

Shit like the 'exhaust pipes' and the little wedgelets on the front are removable.

Grace, beauty, style, and deadliness.

This is a strafing, mecanum wheel full 180 degree hammer with a hinged plow up front and lots of yellow LEDs because LEDs make things cooler. The flavour text at the top is an underappreciated song and the title links to the album. Removable wedge teeth and a hammer blocker can be found in the album if you click the title. I'm not junking up the signup thread anymore. Except for one little thing...

Yup, it's a 12 power flipper alternate configuration.

Meanstreak II

Image

So ya, Memestreak is back, mainly so that I have a second fast and annoyingly wide drum spinner.

Image

However, I'm trying something different with this one. It's basically a control flipper, just with the advantage of not having to time its flips and not getting fucked by the R4 armour stacking rules. Can self right by running into anything with its drum. For now, it's going into Ruination 4 with stats of...

Image

8 speed / 8 traction / 2 torque / 5 weapon / 7 armour (+1 drum)

Image

All and any of the pointed skids are removable entirely, leaving only supports to stop the drum from hitting the ground. Anyways, click the title for a link to the album. It's highly recommended, and there's some additional information in there.

I wanted to do something a bit different, so I went with a Complete Control - inspired design. It uses tracks for mobility to make good on the dismal failure that was my only previous tracked robot: Savage.

Image

The lifter is positioned a bit further back on the body to prevent overbalancing when picking something up. There are also a pair of removable skids under the black lifter pontoons for stability. Check the album linked in the title if you wanna take a look. Obviously, the bot can self-right.

The flames come out of two nozzles and aren't just single-point things for pretty effects. They can actually do some damage with prolonged enough contact.

The track system is a point of particular pride. I used a picture of the old Sherman tank outside of the army base where I used to train as a reference for them. They consist of 1083 individual components. Anyone is welcome to use them.

Step Five: Squidward.
Oh yeah, and there's a lifter only config. The lifter gets the full five weapon points, and some nice weapon armour, for a total of 13 frontal armour.

Clicking the title will take you to an album where removable wedge spikes (for the plow config) and hammer blocker are shown.

Reserved again, mofoes.

LW -- Ayame
Image

She's back! Still named and themed after Ayame, the travelling entertainer-turned-kunoichi from the still-rather kickass fighting game series Power Stone, this speedy and acrobatic rear-hinged pneumatic flipper returns from CBC2 to show even more of what she can do. She can self-right and traverse wedges and other such obstacles with ease using her awesome ninja skills and raised rear wheels, and has super-tough armour (even under the weapon!), a thick lower flipper plate, and rounded corners all over for minimising damage, allowing her to effectively resist most attacks. All the other lightweights here, watch out... it's ninja time!

Speed: 8
Traction: 7
Torque: 2
Armour: 11
Weapon: 2 (Pneumatic Flipper)

Notes: Can quickly and effectively self-right. Raised rear wheels give her the ability to easily drive off wedges, and the weight is spaced mostly at the front and where the wheels are; not enough to affect the turning, but enough to prevent her from rearing up and doing wheelies. Has a Dreadnought-like layer of armour just under the flipper for additional protection, and the rest of the flipper is under the thicker panels at the front (including the corners), so even if the lower panel breaks, it'll still work with the rest of it underneath.

MW -- Marauder
Image
And seeing as it seems we're going for a full retro squad this time, everyone's favourite unkillable tracked machine returns as well for some more battles. It's mostly the same as it was in its previous appearances, but it's now got a higher and properly hinged scoop (even though you can't see it in the pic -- yes, it does still say "PUSH THIS, MOFOES." :v: ) to improve its defences against both overhead weapons (axes, crushers, etc.) and spinners, and to stop it from beaching itself whenever it presses the Lifter down. It also has a properly interchangeable set-up for weapons this time around, having a more solid wedge for the Flipper, a fully reversible set with side skirts for the Lifter, and Wedge Extenders available to either set-up. So slightly more realistic, but still just as capable of murdering everything as before!

(blame the missing tablet for the slightly naff picture -- I will probably update it to look better once it's fixed!)

Speed- 7
Traction- 7
Torque- 4
Armour-10
Weapon- 2 (Electric-driven Flipping/Lifting Plate with optional Wedge Extenders, spring-loaded Spikes and Rear Scoop)

Notes- Is completely invertible. Interlocking steering prevents the need for it to reverse its controls when flipped, Wedges and Scoop can be used effectively regardless of if it is flipped over or not due to both being reversible, and has two sets of spring-loaded Spikes- one for either side of the chassis. Wedge is interchangeable between Flipper (solid wedge) and Lifter modes (wedge with side skirts) for different opponents, though it loses the ability to fire upside-down effectively in Flipper mode.

HW -- Dreadnought Mk3
Image
The stalwart flipper of Ice Cubed Robotics returns to the fray for another shot at the Heavyweight title. By this point, you probably know who he is, and you know what he does -- so don't cross him, or he'll be more than happy to add you to the long list of bots he's thrown for a loop with the classic pneumatic haymaker. :v:

Speed: 7
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Weapon: 5 (front-hinged pneumatic flipper)
Armour: 9

Notes: Can self-right quickly and efficiently with the flipper. The polycarbonate strip on top of the flipper is removable if necessary.

SHW -- Lethal Injection 3
Image
LI3 returns as well, ready as ever to inflict Robo-AIDS upon anyone unlucky enough to fight it. Completely changed from the original version, it now has a more powerful set of three serrated lifting and clamping spikes that can rotate all the way round, allowing it to lift its own body off the ground, with its wheels (foam-filled to prevent punctures) allowing it to move in any position; even up on its front to block axes, crushers, and other overhead weaponry. For spinners, it can be swapped out for an Overhaul 2-like Clamp and Lifter set surrounded by some thick solid wedges for additional protection when needed, and in either format can both right itself and run inverted -- with interlocking steering preventing the need for it to switch controls when flipped -- making it very difficult to try and stop.

Sharp scratch... again.

Speed: 6
Traction: 5
Torque: 3
Armour: 11
Weapon: 5 (360-degree Lifting/Clamping Spikes with interchangeable anti-spinner Clamp/Fork setup)

Notes: Can both run inverted and self-right using the forks. All three spikes can rotate 360 degrees and lift the machine's own weight off the ground, and it features interlocking steering to avoid the need to change its controls when flipped over.
