Hey all. Like several of the other new signups, I got here from Hammerfall. I didn't do terribly well, but for some reason I didn't learn my lesson and showed up here with even more semi-serious "Hey, you know what would be really cool?" robots. Admittedly, most of these don't rely on arena hazards and OOTAs for KOs, and the one that doesn't is basically a brick, so they might actually win matches.

Introducing...

Team Instant Regret:

Image

Icepick Lobotomy (LW):

Image

Speed: 5
Traction: 3
Torque: 1
Armor: 9 (+2 to front wedge, -2 everywhere else)
Weapon: 12

Icepick Lobotomy is a pretty typical hammerbot, with a HPA-powered pickaxe driven by a rack and pinion, with a 3" spike on the end capable of denting sturdier robots and punching straight through the armor of less sturdy ones. It isn't particularly fast, but its 2WD configuration with the wheels in the front allows it to easily turn to aim the axe. It also features a sturdy hinged and shock-mounted steel plough with small forks on the front. Ordinarily, powerful hammerbots tend to launch themselves into the air... but with the forks underneath the opponent it will hold the front end on the ground, maximizing the impact of the weapon.

Charybdis (MW):

Image

Speed: 15 (but actually 3 because it's a melty)
Traction: 1
Torque: 1
Armor: 10 (+2 teeth and outer ring, -2 baseplate and lid)
Weapon: 3 (but actually 15 because it's a melty)

Charybdis is a "melty brain" or "smart thwackbot." A pair of long magmotors run on 8S LiPo spin the entire chassis at around 1500 rpm. It packs an enormous punch, but has the tendency to "hockey puck" around the arena when it hits something.

A quick note on Charybdis's control scheme. Melty brain robots usually have a set of LEDs which light up at certain points in the rotation to provide a direction heading, and the robot can be "turned", varying the timing of the LEDs. Forward stick makes the robot go the direction for "forward" LEDs point. Charybdis has a slight variation of this. The up/down control on the left stick controls the spin throttle, with a switch to reverse direction (useful to make sure I'm spinning the same direction as enemy spinners). The right stick has the forward/reverse channel (what would be elevator on an RC plane) and the turning channel (what would be the aileron channel) - the robot automatically detects when it's upside-down and inverts these controls. However, turning is fairly slow, so Charybdis also has a "strafe channel" bound to what would be rudder on a plane, which makes the bot translate perpendicular to the imaginary forward axis indicated by the lights. This gives it quick responses and can make it move in unexpected ways.

Compound Fracture (HW):

Normal configuration:
Image

Anti-Horizontal-Spinner configuration:
Image

Speed: 7
Traction: 5
Torque: 3
Armor: 10 (weapon armor of 12 for the lifter)
Weapon: 5

Compound Fracture is a heavily armored lifter with a fast 4WD drivetrain. The lifting wedge has multiple configurations. The one seen in the picture has three parts. The outer wedgelets are passive, but with angle limiters, while the central wedgelet is actuated. When it tries to lift an opponent, the outer wedgelets act as "outriggers," preventing the robot from flipping itself over forward (similar to the front legs on Overhaul or Uberclocker). A single-piece wedge may also be used for fights against horizontal spinners. .The robot is powered by 2 long magmotors for the drive and a short magmotor (geared way down) for the lifter - everything is on 8S LiPo.

Regarding wedges: in the normal wedge configuration each wedgelet is made of two 1/4" AR400 plates - one on top, one on the bottom, welded to two 3/8" 4140 side plates to create a "box" structure. The central wedgelet also has a sprocket (not pictured) connecting it to the lifter speed reducer via a roller chain. The anti-spinner plow is a bit different. There is a single top plate, made out of thicker 3/8" AR400 and bent at a large radius. This means that unlike the normal wedge this one has no vertical sides and no sharp corners for a horizontal spinner to grab onto. It is supported and attached to the shaft by four 1/4" 4140 vertical plates (equivalent to the side plates of the normal wedgelets), and an additional 1/4" 4140 plate running approximately perpendicular to both the front and side plates gives the plow additional strength by preventing the left and right sides from being "twisted" relative to each other as well as bracing those sloped sides and preventing them from being warped inward. (In practice, this doesn't change the robot's armor score, but it means that it's much harder for an HS to get "corner damage." There are also small unpowered outriggers hidden underneath the wedge which "float" on the shaft. They can rotate about 30 degrees downward, allowing the plow to be lowered below horizontal, but their vertical range of motion is limited, allowing them to support the front of the robot when it lifts an opponent. Unfortunately, this makes the anti-HS plow ineffective when inverted. However, by angling the wedge "downward" and driving into a wall, then lifting, Compound Fracture can self-right in this configuration. Picture with lifter raised showing outriggers.

Danger Noodle (SHW):

Image
Image

Speed: 5
Traction: 3
Torque: 1
Armor: 8 (the drum itself is a spinning part with a diameter less than the robot's long axis, so it has a weapon armor of 12)
Weapon: 13

Danger Noodle is a vertical shell spinner, or full-body drum: all the electronics are contained inside the walls of the 3/8" AR400 drum, which is over a third of the robot's weight. A pair of support legs (visible in the second picture) prevent the inside the robot from "gerbilling," and the whole thing rests on a pair of 14" diameter wheels. It also has a secondary weapon: a really obnoxious paint job.

EDIT: Changed Compound Fracture's weapon from 4 to 3 and its speed from 6 to 7. Changed Danger Noodle's torque from 2 to 1 and its weapon from 13 to 14.

EDIT: Edited Compound Fracture's description to show the new anti-spinner plow.

EDIT: HAHA I CHANGED COMPOUND FRACTURE'S STATS AGAIN.

All right, I'm going to hitch my wagon to this noob train rolling in from Hammerfall. Presenting... the robots of Aquatic Robotics!*

Here's an imgur album of the whole team: http://imgur.com/a/iP1fB

* Robots not actually waterproof.

------------------------------------------------------

The Lightweight: Pelican
Image

Speed: 6
Traction: 6
Torque: 3
Weapon: 5
Armor: 10

Do Pelicans normally have teeth? Do they normally have wheels? I don't know, but there's something fishy going on here.
Pelican is a lifter/grabber with retractable teeth to keep its prey from escaping its jaws (see the imgur album.) It runs either way up.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The Middleweight: Royale
Image

Speed: 5
Traction: 2
Torque: 3
Weapon: 13 (1 to Srimech)
Armor: 7

The tastiest robot on the team, here to take a bite out of its opponents!
Royale is a drum spinner with omni-wheels and a self-righting arm on top, shown here partially extended. (Does that need a weapon point allocated to it?)

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The Heavyweight: Undertow II
Image

Speed: 5
Traction: 5
Torque: 3
Weapon: 6
Armor: 11 (+2 Shock Absorber)

The new and improved terror of the depths, here to continue its moderate amount of success from Hammerfall.
Undertow is a wedge-shaped flipper with four in-line wheels for extra traction and a shock-mounted armor plate on the rear to defend against spinners. It can self-right by firing the flipper.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The Super Heavyweight: D'Artagnan
Image

Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 2
Weapon: 13
Armor: 6 (+2 Front Shielding)

Ready to serve his king and country, this gallant young musketeer fears only one thing: Milady de Winter. I don't think she's in the tournament, so I should be good, right?
D'Artagnan is a swerve-drive robot wielding a hammer and armored front shield. It should be able to self-right itself eventually by flailing the hammer around.

LW: Mineswept Away
Speed: 7
Torque: 7
Traction: 7
Armor: 9
Weapon: 0

It's a rammer with side skirts and interchangeable(non-active) weapon setups. The setups can be rigged as half-setups to help in the event of mixed designs being needed.

Image
MW: Y-Combat
Speed: 5
Torque: 2
Traction: 3
Armor: 6
Weapon: 14

It's basically super duper old X-Combat, but modified to look swagtastic in the decent version of desert camo.

Image
HW: Annihilation
Speed: 4
Torque: 2
Traction: 3
Armor: 8
Weapon: 19

It walks using rubber thingies that I'm sure Spatula can explain how they work. Explanation was something like this:

Quote:

Those rings have rubber seals on them. Pushing forward on one with a pneumatic ram pushes the rubber seal into the floor, moving the bot forward. Pulling it back takes it off the floor. It's a true walking design that would work in real life. The legs move only horizontally, and nothing rotates in the entire drivetrain. The downside is that it cannot reverse with one set of motors, so it needs a second set of 2 on the back(giving it 4 total Pneumatic ram/seal sets), which costs some weight. However, in Battlebots or Robot Wars it would qualify for any walker weight advantage, so that's not a problem. It has tank-style steering, and just generally better mobility than traditional-style walkers like Gammatron and Pressure Drop.[/quote]

Image
SHW: Allahu Akbar
Speed: 1
Torque: 1
Traction: 1
Armor: 1
Weapon: 32
Uses a walking system like good old fashioned Jim Struts to slowly walk across the arena floor and kill stuff with its ridiculously OP blade. The gaps over the top of its walking legs are gaps for small sound speakers that play various sound clips of people saying Allahu Akbar, all ripped from youtube videos.

Well, I dropped out a few months ago because I didn't think I'd be competing in this. But seeing how the tournament still hasn't started yet, I'm gonna re-enter while the signups are still open!

LIGHTWEIGHT: Veto

Image

Image

Image

Stats:
Speed: 4
Traction: 3
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14
Armor: 8

The destructive Lightweight bot Veto returns to the arena in an even more grotesque form than before. The twisted new incarnation features 16 shuffling legs, 2 sets of 4 on each side, as opposed to wheels to give it a much lower profile. As a result, the blade, which now has a much greater reach than before, can be low enough to the ground that it almost functions as a 360 degree undercutter. To adjust for different opponents, the blade can be moved higher or lower on the drive shaft, from just above the base, to just below the motor. (Pictured position is approx. 20% above the base) Not invertible and cannot self-right

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Buzz Cut

Image

Image

Stats:
Speed: 5
Traction: 4
Torque: 1
Weapon: 14
Armor: 6

Buzz Cut is a 4WD Middleweight robot armed with a massive undercutting blade. The robot has an extremely low profile, with hinged skirts on all sides of the main body making it nearly impossible for any wedge to get underneath. The weapon is set far in front of the main body to give it as much reach as possible. In the unlikely event that it gets flipped, it can run inverted with the blade now functioning as an overcutter.

HEAVYWEIGHT: Halberd

Image

Image

Image

Stats:
Speed: 5
Traction: 3
Torque: 2
Weapon: 12
Armor: 8(+2 to front scoop)

Halberd is a hyperactive 4WD heavyweight robot, armed with a massive double-sided battleaxe weapon. The previous incarnation tormented its competition in the unaffiliated Hammerfall tournament, reaching the quarterfinals where it ultimately lost on the closest judge's decision of the tournament. The axe is pneumatically powered, using high-pressure nitrogen to drive a rack-and-pinion system. Firing the weapon once results in a single 180* swing, so to strike an opponent twice it needs to be fired 3 times; an action which can be completed in just one second! The backswing of the axe is just as powerful as the foreswing, meaning Halberd can attack opponents to the rear with the same power as opponents to the front. The scoop is hinged in two places: First where it attaches to the main body of the bot, and then again where the scoop transitions to the much shallower angle. The teeth are used to catch opponents on the wedge and can be removed if facing a spinner. It also has hinged skirts around the entire base of the robot, giving ample wedge protection. Can self-right quickly with the axe.

Note!: Robot is prone to violent, unpredictable spasms when firing the weapon if off-balance.

SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT: Airtime Extreme

Image

Image

Image

(Pretend there's a pneumatic cylinder in there)

Stats:
Speed: 7
Traction: 5
Torque: 2
Weapon: 6
Armor: 10

Airtime Extreme, like the name suggests, is Airtime's Super Heavyweight cousin. Though like it's Middleweight counterpart it has a powerful flipper, the larger version is more balanced with good maneuverability and strong armor to compliment its signature weapon. Can self-right reliably with flipper.
