Scarab vs. Dr. Pepperdine

Scarab lurches menacingly towards the center of the arena, like a swordfish holding a thermonuclear warhead it can barely carry. The vibrations from the air around the drum cause a noticeable wave of dust to blow away from it as it closes in on Dr P. Dr P approaches equally confident. Kody is quite content to trade hits whichever way, while Dr P maneuvers a bit to see if there's any chance of getting in on a side. No chance, the two are the same speed. Alex goes in with the plow. SCRRRREEEAACH! Some members of the audience actually cover their ears over the blaring sound of the monster drum hitting the plow. The plow seems to be holding despite the abuse, but the good doctor can't seem to push Scarab back more than a meter before stalling. Dr P backs up and goes in faster, this time bringing the hammer down. A tremendous rain of sparks fills the arena and Dr P's plow is blown completely the fuck off and the robot lands on its back, as Scarab is sent backwards in a dizzy fit

Fatality vs. Spike

It was a crazy fight. Hit, hit, hit and hit some more. Surely in any other arena, sooner rather than later one of these too machines of mass destruction would have been annihilated, the other crowned the winner. But this is not just any arena, this is LUMINA CLOTH, and some of these hits send Fatality all over the place, until eventually one does send him out of the arena.

Spike wins in 1 minute dead

Poison vs. Jupiter 2 F

Poison wins by FF.

Mercenary vs. Tornedron

Mercenary starts off with the plow and charges at Tornedron. Alex sidesteps but Mercenary follows suit and sparks fly as the ringed weapon rides over the plow's surface. The two robots end up on a conveyor which causes some momentary confusion. Tornedron wiggles away, bumping off a wall and running out to the center. Mercenary chases in turn, but Tornedron is already up to speed again, and a large gash is left in the rightward black triangle along the rear

Lightweights

Mr. Not Very Nice LW vs Recovered

Out come both machines, and Mister starts to spin up, but Recovered is right there, and gets the wedge under Mister's side. Zook tries to shimmy himself away, but Martijn does well to keep control over the thwack, and Mister is soon taking hits from the Pulverizers. Two blows land on the roof, and one catches the wheel, before he manages to get himself out of there, zipping away from the hazards with Recovered in hot pursuit. Up spins Mister again, and Recovered comes in with the wedge, but this time he takes a shot from Mister's arm. Martijn's able to stay on him, though, and takes another hit, this time stopping the thwack from doing just that. The wedge gets under again, and it's a lot more swift in taking Mister under the hammers for yet more shots! It's a fast-paced match, this. Mister gets itself loose, Recovered chases down, Mister gets some good thwacks in, Recovered sends Mister to the hazards a few times, and by the time the buzzer sounds and the match is done, both machines have had a solid outing. But there can only be one winner, so let's go to the Judges...

Aggression: 10-5 Recovered
Damage: 8-7 Mr Not Very Nice LW
Strategy: 8-7 Recovered

Recovered wins by a 25-20 Judges' Decision.

Poison vs. Vipoz

A wild VIPOZ appea-oh wait, no it didn't.

Poison used FORESIGHT!

Poison wins by FF.

Tornedron vs. Annoying Box Rush

It's the Land of Confusion, but there's nothing confusing about this match! Just straight-up Rammer vs. Spinner action! ABR races out with the wedge and eats a big hit as Tornedron makes for the side of the wedge. Still looked pretty cool though. ABR manages to slip back in before the spinner is back to 100% speed and scoops him off to the fire jet! Aw man, watch that bot cook and sizzle! After ABR is forced to back off Tornedron comes out swinging (or spinning in a more literal sense) and scores another good hit off ABR, but goes bouncing off to the nearby tread and gets deposited on a CO2 jet which juggles him around a bit. Basically it gives ABR a decent enough opening to come back in and pin him again. Tornedron isn't going to take that laying down though and scores yet another good hit on the wedge. There's a small chunk that gets ripped off. The two bots sort of play out this sequence again, but eventually Tornedron manages to get a clean hit on ABR's side and that REALLY leaves a nice gash. ABR concludes the fight pinning Tornedron over the flame jet once more.

Aggression: 10-5 Annoying Box Rush
Damage: 12-3 Tornedron
Strategy: 8-7 Annoying Box Rush

Tornedron wins 24-21

Scarab vs Old Soul

Old Soul gets its sawblades spinning, but just look at that drum of Scarab. It takes longer to get going, but once it does, you're in for a world of hurt. Old Soul is playing it safe for the most part, keeping its distance from Scarab's weapon, but with equal speed, it can't run forever, and sure enough, Scarab catches Old Soul bang side-on. One wheel gets torn clean off, the whole machine goes tumbling at least nine or ten feet into the air, and it comes down with an almighty impact. The left-hand sawblades is bent, the one wheel it has left is bent upwards on its motor, and the wedge is hanging limpy from the front panel, as the machine lies on its side in a crumpled, ruined heap.

It's also not on the platform anymore.

Scarab wins by Ring Out/KO in 1:14

Frequency vs. Hit 'em Hardest

Well Frequency doesn't get a chance to hit HeH hardest and takes this one by FF.

Jupiter 2 F vs. Mobile Failure

Mobile Failure wins by FF.

Mercenary vs. Smoke & Mirrors

Happily I realized that Mercenary actually can self-right even if it gets stuck on the plow, just before I started writing. Anyway, battle time.

One of the twins (Smoke, I guess) box-rushes Mercenary (how?) while the other one goes about the arena. Mercenary decides to play it a little safe and dodges the first charge. He travels around, but in attempting to lure one of them around a flipper, Mirrors gets under the side. Having one-wheel still on the ground, Mercenary wheels about and tries to get himself away, just barely managing to avoid Smoke. Mercenary tries with trying to get one of them near a flipper but Badnik isn't biting. Chris shrugs back in the booth, and then (scoop-first) Mercenary goes full tilt right at Mirrors (the silver one), arm raising on the other side to ready a clamp. He gets under Mirrors but Mirrors drives up the scoop and right up into the arm (raised terminally at this point). Hilariously this sends him flying up onto the wedge. While this is happening, Smoke is also trying to get under Mercenary's side. Mercenary dumps Mirrors on top of Smoke but Badnik's cluster keeps going. Eventually Mercenary is brought onto the floor flipper and it sends him flying across the arena. Thankfully he landed right-side-up, but is a little shaken by the impact. From there Mercenary manages to ward off the pair and manages to invert one of them, but is mostly flanked and bullied around the arena.

Aggression: 8-7 Mercenary
Damage: 9-6 Smoke & Mirrors
Strategy: 9-6 Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & Mirrors wins a 25-20 judges' decision over Mercenary.

Fatality vs. Dr. Pepperdine

Yeah...
Dr. of the P kind gets under Fatality rather quickly, and Fatality leaves the arena shortly after...
ALL IN A DAYS WORK ON LUMINA CLOTH!

Dr. P wins by KO in 10 seconds flat!

Spike vs. Don't Tread On Me

Don't Tread slams into Spike with the ramming plate from the get go and eats a hit. Spike ricochets away with its poor traction and crashes into the paddles, which knock Spike away. We're literally watching pinball here, folks. Don't Tread continues being aggressive and crashes into Spike several times, where Spike does a decent amount of damage to the spinner plate, but always ricochets into the arena walls afterwards. Don't Tread does get Spike's body slowed down, but he can't push him because he was forced to come in with the ramming plate before Spike got away. This eats up a bit of the clock, but Lian's just glad that he isn't eating any hits. Both robots are forced to retreat because of the deadlock, and Spike gets up to speed again. Don't Tread crashes into Spike, and this time the resulting ricochet takes Spike into the bumpers. The ramming plate on Don't Tread is completely trashed at this point and basically falling off, but Spike's mobility seems to be hindered because of the internal damage. Don't Tread comes in for one last slam.

Aggression: 12-3 Don't Tread On Me
Damage: 11-4 Spike
Strategy: 8-7 Don't Tread On Me

Don't Tread On Me wins a 24-21 judges' decision.

Solve et Coagula vs. Lightning

I was going to write a really inspiring fight to give Kody some confidence back in SeC, but he'll just have to settle for collecting a FF win.

Jupiter: Heads
LAotL: Tails

Toss 1) Tails
Toss 2) Heads

Jupiter 2H wins by Coin Toss.

Reaper vs. V For Vendetta

REAPER WINS BY COIN TOSS

Braveheart vs. Fidchell

Braveheart roars out like a motherfucker... wait, really? Let's do a double take and see... IT'S SO SLOW!!! Wait. Fidchell isn't even spinning... wait now it is... it's... IT'S SO SLOW!!! WHAT'S GOING ON?!? Oh. Looks like the slow-mo mode was on. *fires the media technician* Uh, let's speed that up again. Braveheart crashes into Fidchell just as Fidchell manages to get to full speed and there's a huge hit. Fidchell flies backwards into the wall and Braveheart buckles, but doesn't move much from the hit since there wasn't anything to latch onto. However, there's a pretty big gouge in the armoured front. Braveheart slams into Fidchell and pushes her along the wall, towards the hammer. Fidchell can't escape and takes a few blows. When Fidchell escapes however, we get another huge hit that buckles Braveheart some more, but more importantly knocks the faceplate askew. Uh oh. His wedging compromised, NFX immediately changes tack and diverts his offense to Fidchell's sides. Fidchell in turn responds by using her own wedge, and mixing it up with the disc. Braveheart's lack of fangs kind of helps Fidchell out because half the time Braveheart gets under her from then on, he goes flying overtop and he loses her, and nearly sends himself into a hazard, but not quite. Fidchell takes a bit of punishment regardless but also manages to dish it out some, both when she gets her disc into play and when wedging Braveheart and taking him to hazards as well. Braveheart takes progressively more damage but is still alive and kicking by the buzzer, though with an absolutely wrecked front wedge.

Aggression: 11-4 Braveheart
Damage: 13-2 Fidchell
Strategy: 9-6 Fidchell

Fidchell wins a 26-19 judges' decision over Braveheart.

March or Die vs. Stingray

Wedges trying to get under one another! All in a day's work in the ARC Arena. The trained eye of the advanced ARC-watcher would notice March or Die's wedge to be slightly sharper, but there ain't much in it, and in fact, Stingray gets in the first attack between the 2 machines that are caught in a deadly tango, as he flips over March or Die! MoD starts selfrighting as he gets pushed into the nearest pulverizer... and as he completes his self righting route he gets a knock of said pulverizer! From there March or Die really turns the match around, gets under Stingray, and manage to have him receive a few knocks from the hammer before Stingray finds the traction needed to escape... and basically this sketches what will be happening the rest of the match... Both machines try to get under the other, both succeed, and while Nick does manage to take advantage of MoD's self righting time every so often... fact just is playzooki gets under slightly more often... and manages to keep Stingray stuck under a hammer for quite a time at some point...
CEASE

Aggression 8-7 March or Die
Damage 8-7 March or Die
Strategy 8-7 Stingray

March or Die wins a 23-22 judge

Mr. Not Very Nice LW vs. Mobile Failure

In honour of former US President Clinton's visit to Northern Ireland on this day in 1995, playzooki and Alteiriaa will be replaced with drivers Timothy James Sillery and torowinsagain2. The Land of Confusion arena will also be decorated with Northern Ireland flags, and the audience are comprised of leprechauns and one stereotypical Valley girl from the US, who's rooting for the Canadian in a half-hearted way. No, there's no logic there, don't try and see it.

So Not Very Nice drives towards Mobile Failure and starts thwacking. The leprechauns cheer loudly. Mobile Failure drives towards NVN and NVN stops and RUNS AWAY. The leprechauns stop cheering and look confused. NVN tries to be aggressive, but that's hard to do when you basically state that you're going to drive away when the opponent gets too close. Mobile Failure hunts NVN all around the arena, and the leprechauns start booing. They start pelting dogbot4000 (the username Tim goes by on the FRA forums) with leprechaun gold. All of a sudden he gains some confidence and NVN crashes head-on into Mobile Failure! It's too bad Mobile Failure has the advantage in that situation. torowinsagain2 clamps the thwackbot and drags him over to a CO2 vent and holds him there. The same thing that happens to NVN suddenly also happens to the leprechauns; jets of cold air shoot up from under their seats. Ooh, that's cold. Eventually Mobile Failure has to let him go, and NVN sprints away and begins thwacking. Mobile Failure closes the distance but Not Very Nice stops and RUNS AWAY, with the axebot in pursuit. One of the leprechauns swears very loudly at this and the leprechauns are about to riot. Not Very Nice finally, finally gets in a thwack and the leprechauns cheer again. There's a small dent in the side of Mobile Failure, but it's turned the axebot aside too. Not to be put off, torowinsagain2 direct's Alteiriaa's machine towards the thwackbot who RUNS AWAY and the boos recommence. Half the time has gone by. Mobile Failure deflects a thwack from the fleeing thwackbot and clamps on. Ooh, we're back to the CO2 vents. And so are the leprechauns, who feel under jet of cold air burst from under their seats. All of a sudden the arena is full of boisterous leprechaun voices. Hey, if you felt a blast of refrigerated air under your knickers, ladies, you're be cursing too. Anyway, Mobile Failure lets NVN go again and we're nearly done. NVN RUNS AWAY as Mobile Failure pursues the somewhat diminished thwackbot, and deflects another thwack to carry NVN to one of the floor flippers. Whee! NVN goes flying. NVN just decides to spin and thwack now, and Mobile Failure sits there, and sits there, and sits there, and torowinsagain2 must be off having a Snickers or something because that robot is totally stationary. Finally we get this totally weak charge and both bots go flying and that's end of the fight. A few of the leprechauns have thrown a whole pot of gold onto Tim, who nonetheless looks absurdly pleased with the situation. That is, until the gold vanishes. The Valley girl claps, like, totally half-heartedly.

Aggression: 15-0 Mobile Failure
Damage: 9-6 Mobile Failure
Strategy: 15-0 Mobile Failure

Mobile Failure wins a 39-6 judges' decision over Mr. Not Very Nice LW.

Recovered vs. Smoke and Mirrors

Fight Highlights: Recovered mostly concentrates on Mirrors during the fight slamming him around to various hazards. Occasionally the cluster team manages to wedge Recovered, but has a hard time controlling him and taking him anywhere. Mirrors gets more and more beat down as the fight drags on, but the pair manages to get Recovered to the drum and eat up some time there.

Aggression: 9-6 Recovered
Damage: 10-5 Recovered
Strategy: 10-5 Recovered

Recovered wins 29-16

Dr. Pepperdine vs. Old Soul

Alex stares in amazement at Old Soul, just looking at it--gushing over its sublime engineering. He spends nearly 30 seconds after the buzzer just sitting there ruminating until Old Soul comes over and rides under Pepperdine

Lightweights

Mobile Failure vs. Smoke and Mirrors

Underall wedges in front! Smoke box rushes (with 5 speed) while Mirrors goes around. But Mobile Failure goes for Mirror instead, leaving Smoke to crash into Mobile Failure's side, underneath the wedge. Mirrors backs away and lets Smoke shove Mobile Failure into the nearest bumper, which tears the hinged wedge and pulls it off a couple of its hinges. Shaken, but not deterred, Mobile Failure comes in for another assault, and this time wedges Mirrors before immediately plunking the axe down multiple times, denting and puncturing Mirrors. Smoke comes in to help out with a large shove into the paddles, which bats them all away. Mirrors is freed now, and retreats, while Smoke (who has been doing the majority of the work in this match) gets underneath Mobile Failure once more. Mirrors comes back in to help and they both shove Mobile Failure into the arena hammers. The hammer pounding for the full thirty seconds does a real number on Mobile Failure, flattening out the top and even bending parts of the axe well. S&M are forced to released, and while Mobile Failure moves away, it's noticeably slower. Mobile Failure does get underneath Mirrors again and brings down the axe, but it is definitely not as powerful as it was earlier in the match. Smoke comes in to free his friend by powering underneath Mobile Failure and into the spinners. The collision hurts Mirrors as well, who has started smoking. But Mobile Failure isn't moving at all, and is counted out.

Smoke and Mirrors wins by a knockout in 2:23.

Old Soul vs. Jupiter 2 F

Hey! A Mexican peso! Old Soul is heads (representing the "$1" side), and Jupiter 2 F is tails (representing... whatever the hell that thing is. A dragon? A bald eagle? I thought this was a Mexican coin, not an American one. I haven't cracked open a history book in ages, kay?)

Flip 1 = Tails
Flip 2 = Tails
(just for fun) Flip 3 = Heads. Meh.

Jupiter 2 F wins by Coin Toss

Hit 'em Hardest vs. Mercenary

Mercenary wins by forfeit.

Mr. Not Very Nice LW vs. Fatality

Fatality comes out and puts a brutal hit on Mr. NVNLW. It rips a bit of shrapnel off and Fatality goes flying away. He switches to thwack mode when Fatality comes back around and on contact the thwack arm gets ripped off and goes flying against the nearest wall. A couple hits later and Mr. NVNLW is done for. Fatality does some victory spinner after the count out and trips over some shrapnel and self-destructs.

Fatality wins by KO in 0:59

Recovered vs. Spike

Recovered box rushes (wedge rush, sorry) right from the get go. He plows into Spike, but even at half speed holy shit that is a lot of damage. Hitting the wedge almost directly on the hinge and the thing is barely hanging on. Recovered stays on him and tries to get Spike under the hammer, but plowing into the wall knocks spike loose and the hammer misses. Spike moves just far enough away to get back up to speed, and while Recovered is quick on his heels, Spike reaches full speed and the next hit just entirely rips off Recovered's wedge. Recovered can still drive around, and comes back in but the next hit just rips open Recovered's chest. Spike comes in for another hit and destroys that wheel guard. Another hit and Martijn just taps out.

Spike wins by a knockout in 1:01

Dr. Pepperdine vs. Poison

Okay so Poison drives straight at Pepperdine. Pepperdine gives him a blow and backs off. A few seconds after he does these things, he reverse j-hooks and continues to axe Poison. This process continues until eventually a wheel is punctured and Poison can only move it circles. Pepperdine keeps at it and Poison stops moving entirely.

Dr. Pepperdine wins by KO in 1:10.

SPIKE WINZ, FF!

Hit 'em Hardest vs Scarab

Scarab wins by FF. No KO for you this time.

Dr. Pepperdine vs Recovered

The story of this match is one of Pepperdine being good, but Recovered being better. Recovered slips straight underneath on the initial charge, and Pepperdine is pretty helpless as Martijn's bot shovels him towards the hazards. Alex fires the axe, and strikes just short of his opponent's machine, but the Pulverizer doesn't fall short of Pepperdine, catching the turret on one side. Alex continues firing the axe, and manages to jostle himself free, but Recovered is back on him in a flash, this time taking him across the reels. Tails...Tails...Sonic. No dice. The Spinners are still pretty potent, though, as Pepperdine finds out to his cost, Recovered smashing him into them. The rest of the match is more of the same, Recovered bullying Pepperdine around, and Pepperdine doing his best to survive. The turret stops working about two and a half minutes in, but Pepperdine is able to get underneath Recovered once a few moments later. The axe isn't pointing the right way, though, and Recovered can easily slither away before the match ends.

Aggression: 14-1 Recovered
Damage: 15-0 Recovered
Strategy: 14-1 Recovered

Recovered wins a 43-2 Judges' Decision

Recovered wins by FF

Poison vs. Frequency

Lowering the saw and slowly moving in, Poison is struck immediately by the spinning bar on Frequency, and its disc shatters, as the robots are knocked apart. Quickly regrouping, Poison is back again for more, but the next hit catches the disc arm, pulling the robot sideways where Frequency knocks a wheel right off. With nothing more to do but go in circles, Poison sits still and takes more abuse, its front wedge looking like wrinkled tinfoil and its innards falling out, Poison stops moving and gets counted out.

Frequency wins by KO in 0:49

Dr. Pepperdine vs. Annoying Box Rush

ABR moves out and drives over the slots (Miles, Miles, Miles!) Bonus time! ABR closes the gap with Pepperdine and slows down as he gets closer.
