Couple of days late but here's the race report from California

Chase Spader surprisingly claimed the pole for this race, with Antonio Alberts alongside him on the front row. As the green flag waves, the field immediately spreads out to three or even four cars wide, using the wide race surface to their advantage. Seth Martin quickly takes the lead from Spader, and he drops back quickly. Also moving early is Bjorn Kristjansson, who is able to pilot his Ford into the top 3 by lap 7. Evan Henderson takes the lead from Martin 7 laps later, with Magga McDonald and Kirk Kidd behind him. Soon, they try to take the lead from Henderson, and Kidd is able to settle into second as the field begins to spread out. As the race continues, it becomes harder to pass due to the spread field, and drivers need to look for ways to catch the drivers in front of them. On lap 35, the first wave of green flag pit stops begins, and McDonald is able to come out of pit lane in the lead. More big movers from the wave of stops include Travis Scalabrine and Snuffy McAirborne, who both get into the top 10 due to fast stops and pit strategy. Ten laps later, Seth Martin catches McDonald and passes for the lead, returning to first place for the second time that day. At this point, the race quiets down, with nothing major happening up until the second wave of stops on lap 70. Kyle Wood is the big winner this time, moving into the top 5, but Martin and McDonald still lead. However, Scalabrine had another fast pit stop and works his way into second as McDonald gets the lead back. Scalabrine passes McDonald for the lead on lap 85 and holds it until Kirk Kidd, who had worked his way up from 5th, passes him on Lap 103. He gets two laps in before the field pits for the final time, but Kidd is able to hold onto his position with a flawless pit stop. The race at this point had come down to Kidd and Scalabrine: Everyone else was at least two seconds behind them, with only 15 laps left. Soon, the two drivers encounter slow lap traffic, and Scalabrine tries to use this to pass Kidd for the lead. But as the laps tick down, it becomes apparent that he can't do it, and Kidd is able to take the checkered flag at California! Congrats to Alex for his second win!

As a side note, this is the first race where Clyde Guzuta did not finish in the top 10. As a result, no one driver will finish every race in the top ten this season.

Not Fujiwara's best performance, but he still managed to hold on somewhat near the front of the pack. Asakura needs to step his game up though.

Results from our first short track, Martinsville, are in!

Clyde Guzuta won the pole for this race, and he ran away with the lead early, outrunning second-place starter Karl Smith easily. Behind these two is Adam Lawson, who struggled heavily during the first leg of the season. This strong run is a breath of fresh air. In this race, there were cautions early and often. The first is caused by Mike Hunt turning Inky Aosuke, collecting Tanner Grant, Chase Spader and Ruri Thomson. Thomson retires due to the damage, the other drivers stay in the race, as their damage doesn't really slow them down that much. Despite several cautions and some strong challenges from Karl Smith and Robin Best, Guzuta keeps the lead and is able to hold it for the first hundred laps or so. After a caution on lap 108, where Dave Davies tries to squeeze between Evan Henderson and Jaelon Sapp and fails miserably, Clyde finally loses the lead as he is forced to pit. George Plinkleton, who was on a different pit strategy, takes the lead from him. However, another caution later between Mike Hunt and Will Harvey makes the 66 of Akira Queen the leader, with Aislinn Sheehan in second. Sheehan tries to make a pass for the lead on lap 134, but Queen blocks and gets spun, taking him out of the lead. The field cycles back through to Karl Smith, while Clyde Guzuta had been struggling in the pack and had lost several spots. After another caution for the 69 car, Scott Jackson takes the lead, but he's passed by Ron Waffle on the restart. This green flag doesn't last for long as Hunt spins YET AGAIN, this time collecting Clyde Guzuta. Guzuta's car was heavily damaged and had to retire due to the damage. Press F to pay respects.

This time, the damaged 32 car of John Hayward takes the lead, and surprisingly he's able to hold off second-place Aislinn Sheehan for about 20 laps in one of the longer green flag runs of the race. After the next caution, where Chase Spader retires, Waffle retakes the lead and holds it until lap 239 of 250, when he's passed by Bjorn Kristjansson, who had been running clean all day. Once Kristjansson had the lead there was no catching him, and he was able to run unopposed for the final 11 laps, claiming the first win for Ford and Giraffe Racing! Congrats to NoiseyGiraffe!

I've decided to try and crank out as many races as possible this week to catch up from the 2-month hiatus. The next race on the schedule is Road America, the first "new" track on the schedule, and our first road course!

However, it really wasn't very exciting. George Plinkleton won the pole, and he dominated the first 20 laps (of 39, RA is huge) until green flag pit stops on lap 21. There, Snuffy McAirborne, who started second, was able to pass him with a quicker stop. Soon after that, Travis Scalabrine passed Plinkleton for second. Meanwhile, in the back of the pack, Evan Henderson was brake-checked by Johnny Rosales and took severe damage to the nose of his car, removing him from contention. Scalabrine, Plinkleton and Robin Best were all within a second of the lead, while everyone else was nowhere near.

Nothing much else happens up until lap 32, when the second and final wave of pit stops happen. Robin Best comes out first this time, with McAirborne in second and Bjorn Kristjansson, hungry for a second win, in third. However, neither of them could catch Best, who is able to hold out for the win. Congrats to Nick for his first win!

and we're back after another two month hiatus! Motorama season was tough but we're through it now so we can get back to racing!

this next race is at Texas Motor Speedway, another 1.5 mile track. On the pole was Takumi Fujiwara, the points leader, hoping to extend his lead. In second is the surprise Timothy Victor, who's been struggling to break out so far this season. On the drop of the green flag, Fujiwara bolts and Victor struggles to get up to speed. The bottom row powers forward, and Scott McHale shoots into the lead and starts building a lead. Snuffy McAirborne battles the 4 for the second position, while Dave Davies and Scott Jackson round out the top five. McAirborne catches McHale on lap 13, and goes for the lead. However, he's unable to get it, and McHale begins driving away from the field again. Meanwhile, perennial favorite Kirk Kidd has been making his way through the field from his starting spot of 23rd into the top 10. I swear, you put him in last place and he'll race his way up to the top 5 in no time. By this point, the field had begun to spread out, and drivers were settling in for the long haul. Pinky Machibuse began to move in this segment of the race, moving from 4th to 2nd. Scott Jackson and Hoyte Burnett collided in a battle for 6th, and Jackson barely hung on to his car. He was sideways coming out of the turn.
Image
As the race winds on, the top 10 begin to separate from the rest of the field, and Machibuse begins to catch McHale. Green flag stops start on Lap 58 with McHale and a few other cars coming for fuel and tires. However, two laps later, Inky Aosuke's car dies on track due to a lack of fuel, and the caution flag is waved. Since this was midway through green flag stops, half of the field is caught a lap down, including McHale and Fujiwara. Fujiwara is able to get his lap back via wave-around rules, but McHale chooses to come in to pit a second time to top off on fuel and stays a lap down.

Pinky Machibuse has the lead on the restart, but Dave Davies steals it early. The swarm of lap traffic makes it difficult for any one car to get a lead. This lap traffic allows Jackson to take the lead from Davies on lap 75. Ten laps later, Kirk Kidd takes the lead again due to the lapped cars. Eventually, the cloud of lapped cars fades and Kidd begins expanding his lead. Chase Spader and previous race winner Robin Best had raced into third and fourth, both drivers in serious need of some points at this point in the series. On lap 104, Clyde Guzuta rams George Plinkleton out of the way for 16th, damaging Plinkleton's car and sparking a rivalry between the two drivers (not really but let's just pretend ok?)

On lap 118, Magga McDonald's engine gives out, and he is crashed into by Harold Cunningham, who was swinging low to pit. These two cars slide upwards and collect Snuffy McAirborne and Dave Davies. Will Harvey Jr. is also involved. Everyone involved crashes out of the race.
Image

Johnny Rosales also pits during this caution due to electrical issues and goes two laps down. 40 laps to go on the restart, Kidd still leading. Once again, the swarm of lapped traffic places another new leader in front, this time the 22 of Robin Best. Once the traffic clears, however, Kidd is able to get past Best again and re-take the lead. However, Best won't give up, and tries to reclaim the lead again soon after. The two trade back and forth for a little bit until Kidd gets a run and opens a gap. 15 laps to go and Kidd has opened up a 1 second lead over Robin Best, with no lap traffic in sight. Chase Spader is able to get by Best for second with 6 laps to go, but by this time the gap to Kidd had grown to 3 seconds. While Kidd coasts to victory, there's scrambling between the bottom three top-5 cars for position: Best, Jaelon Sapp and Matthew Vincent, with Kyle Wood also trying to sneak his first top-5 finish. However, the win and the glory (for the third time) go to Mean Green Motorsports' Kirk Kidd! Congratulations once again to Alex M!
