SCARLETT AND VENGEANCE

The Mercenary Jackdaw draws his dress sword, which looks suspiciously sharp for something meant only to look cosmetic purchases even as he snatches the quantum dice from the air. With a single swipe he beheads the ghola-clone at the table, then ducks behind a pillar for a moment as if he is coughing up something...

Scarlett isn't feeling like this is going to plan at all - with her first choice of weapon destroyed she'll have to improvise. She pulls the Robotic Samurai Baboon from her clutch purse and lets it join the fray even as Mechadurg begins to try and get up. Ziggy tries to right itself now the pressure from Mechadurg is released a bit, but the RoSaBa sticks it's blade through the back of the knee, sending the mechanical marauder dropping back down to one knee, spraying some kind of hydraulic fluid across the room. Jackdaw seems to have regurgitated some tiny gun by this point and fires some shots into Ziggys legs, shattering the whole right leg off at the knee.

Vengeance fires a volley of beams from his cane after Scarlett, and she is forced to drop behind another set of pillars to get into cover. Ziggy is already beginning to to regenerate the lost leg, but Jackdaw is already leaping into the fray, kicks RoSaBa flying into a chandelier and drives his blades into the neck of MechaDurg. The Inorganic Ogre however is still a substantially tough opponent, and a swipe with his long arms send Jackdaw spinning across the room, though the mercenary manages to spin it into a superhero landing.

However, with Jackdaw knocked out the way, Mechadurg is better able to assault Vengeance, and flings one of the tiddlywinks tables towards the Professor. A beam of cane laser slices the table in two, heading either side of Vengeance who switches to the blade in his cane. Ziggy manages to crawl behind Mechadurg to act as cover, and raises some kind of energy shield in front of him on his right arm to try and parry blows. Jackdaw and Vengeance both engage the crippled Mechadurg who still manages to be a formidable opponent. However, with Ziggy trying to escape from Vengeance and his limb newly regenerated, he tries to head to the exit where he is suddenly tripped by an aura projection from Scarlett. A Vibro-punch gauntlet clad fist connects with the back of Ziggy's head and it explodes into metal shards. Not willing to risk a full confrontation with Vengeance, Scarlett activates her ring of hoverboard, and flees the casino, RoSaBa following behind.

After a continued team up against Mechadurg, Jackdaw manages to distract the angry android long enough for Vengeance to blast a hole through a weak point in his chest. Leaving the large machine and going over to inspect the remains of Ziggy, there is good news.

Scarlett apparently had no specific knowledge of Axel's heart powering the machine, and so, crippled as Ziggy is without a head, Ziggy is neither fully dead, nor is the heart damaged. With the device that Dark Sein provided, Vengeance extracts the heart and feels the power running through him...

EVERYONE

The great stone that represented Ziggy begins to shatter from the inside, and suddenly bursting forth... a vast chaos emerald takes it's place...

Everyone is gifted another 1000 credits and another roll on the item machine.

VENGEANCE
Vengeance is now a Combatant, but there is a certain other matter to attend to. Shattered a body as it is, Ziggy still lives... Vengeance finally gets the opportunity to have his kill... He takes out the enamelled handgun of perfect short range accuracy and in his mind focuses on aiming for the prime memory unit. A single shot and everything that was Ziggy housed in this shell is blown away with a single bullet.

Vengeance and Jackdaw stand in the casino and contemplate the outcome. Much as it didn't go according to plan, they know possess an entire casino within a dice and Vengeance is now a competitor, and he got to kill Ziggy. Perhaps he can turn some of the remains into something humiliating to give that extra kit to the smug robot who stole his kill? But soon, the world may well be his mollusc of choice...

TELLU - ALSO CYRUS AND THE BEING (and SASHA)

Tellu investigates some of the other prisoners - specifically the Vrollthite Opus (aka Nanite Lady), the Seaweed and the Brain and combined with advice from Sasha, gathers the following info:

Krog
- is generally uninteresting and one-dimensional

Opus
- a living culture receptacle in the form of countless nanomachines
- relations to the Vrollthite people
- doesn't want anyone getting too close or she goes mad
- fears Jeff most because he threatens her
- fears the Story a little less for reasoning above
- says communication is likely via mystics or psionic means, or a trunk cable

Jeff
- according to both Kerenhotep and the Opus, this guy is a reality warper gone nuts

The Brain
- Remains rambling and nonsensical
- Refers to everyone except Krog and the Story as "new arrivals" indicating that these were the first 3.

Kerenhotep
- daughter of Berenhotep
- according to the Opus, directly attacked Doomforall, never caused civilian casualties, and is generally angsty
- generic sorcery

"The Seaweed"
- The seaweed can only really communicate with emotions on any level Tellu can understand
- It doesn't care about the opus, thinks Kerenhotep is dangerous and is disinterested but wary of the Story

The Story
- a living tale that recites everything; Opus fears it would corrupt her(edited)
----

and Sasha rules out Krog and Jeff, at least. She also pitches that if it isn't him, perhaps Jeff could be a means of killing Sikander, as all the others spoken to so far seem afraid of him.

(thanks to Kody for his own summation, saves me doing it here :P)

BEAR IN MIND

A new movement has started to emerge. It seems someone is sponsoring an ad campaign that opposes Bears Sans Frontiers. It portrays Bears as greedy, sneaky and cowardly, and the only reason BiM is founding Bears Sans Frontiers is because as a weak and opportunistic taxon, they suddenly had a chance to take over the world!

While the popularity of the various Bear celebrities is enough to shield you a little from this, it's not enough to entirely negate things...

BEAR IN MIND

Investigating who is responsible for this travesty against Bears Sans Frontiers, Bear in Mind's cybernetic guinea pig friend goes undercover as a prospective investor at a media firm run by two Capybara. They seem really pleased about this huge windfall for their company, which Peeg eventually winkles out of them was from a company called Codeman, who sponsored a hate group called MAAB (Melded Alliance Against Bears) to get some expensive producers involved.

On going to research the address that Peeg got, BiM found that the business called Codeman didn't really do a lot as far as he could work out beyond pay taxes. The offices had previously been occupied by:

An air conditioning company called AC Demon
A Doctor listed as "Ocean MD"
A Mobster named Don Acme
A Dance School run by one "Dance Mo"

RICHFIELD
You are approached by a trio of human women named Roxana, Stateira and Parysatis. They all claim to have been attacked and burgled by Sasha, and want her hunted down by your new department to stand trial! They claim she used her power staff to teleport into their houses and rob them of expensive jewelry.

SCARLETT, TELLU, CYRUS AND THE BEING PLUS SASHA

There is more interrogation of the prisoners.

The Story recounts a tale of it's backstory - essentially it seems to be a spirit from the beginning of time, that pursued it's own narrative long past the time where most of it's peers reached the end of their narrative. It also claims that it's imprisonment here is merely one chapter... allbeit one that has lasted thousands of years.

They then talk to the reality warper Jeff, and witness first hand how casually his powers seem to interact with the world. They gather that he thinks he's in some luxury accomodation he won in a phone competition and that he doesn't like the Story because it's creepy. He summons people from his imagination and doesn't even notice it happening. After leading him down a conversation line about Blurgball, and a player who looks like one of the above, and eventually Krog comes up.

On talking to Krog, the answer comes fairly quickly on a line about stealing Sikander's skull. Krog finds this a funny joke - he knows precisely who Sikander is but not where his skull is, as first generation prisoners, he knows that Sikander is a duplicate of Doomforall, an older one, who fought him and lost, but couldn't be killed, despite being "smashed to goo". But he is very clear - the identity of Sikander is... the Brain!

"Sorry, Ziggy... snake eyes.

HAHAAAA! We did it, Jacksie, we did it! Champion status and our very own quantum casino to boot! Here, take my new 1000 credits! You've more than earned it! Oh what the hell - bonuses for everyone! I may even have a few spare pink diamonds lying around the lair somewhere. Very rare in this part of the multiverse, you know, very well hidden..."

But I digress. Jackdaw, let's get this place in lockdown and rendezvous with the others at the castle. We've still got a job to do and there's no point in getting overconfident at this early stage. Don't forget, entering the tournament was only phase one. Phase two is where things get...challenging.

First things first, though - to the item generator, HOOOOO!"

PROFESSOR VENGEANCE

Jackdaw happily takes the thousand credits, and does a quick sweep of the building to dispatch the last few security gholas. While they haven't got immediate access to the vault, he does manage to locate an accounts office which states that there should be 24062397 credits in the vaults, not including anything that is on the casino floor in machines - there are always big amounts of change in the "Roy" machines!.

Heading back to the Castle which the Guild have occupied he meets up with the others. With Ziggy out the picture, the castle was undefended and taking it was easy.

Dark Sein steps forward "The Castle is now yours, and I see you were successful too. Congratulations on your new role Competitor! I believe I've located one of the few remaining competitors - the one known as Sasha is probably the most immediatly dangerous - she's shown she is willing to fight and her staff seems a potent weapon. She seems to have joined several of the arbiters heading inside to the God Prison of Gidroth'Ilrak. This is an ideal place to ambush her - the prison will suppress her ability to teleport, and there is only one way in and out. The downside is she is accompanied by Tellu, the Being, Scarlett and Cyrus."

"Robbery, even by someone as high profile at the moment as Sasha, would seem to be a matter that would be handled by the regular authorities and not my more specialized department." Richfield paused and looked shrewdly at the trio of women. "That is unless there's some more important reason she may have targeted you. Give me some more specifics about this incident and we shall see what we can do."

It sucks going 0-5. You lose all 4 of your bot fights for the week and you also lose at life.

DR RICHFIELD
Roxana, Stateira and Parysatis look uncomfortable, and it is not until Stateira eventually speaks out. "Well.... we are... errr.. were something of collectors. A lot of our collection was... errr... let's say not entirely on the conventional side of the law. Parysatis grows interrupts. "Let me perhaps be blunt - she stole some death-magic powered items. A soul-leach ring that leaves it's victims trapped in undeath. An amulet of mortis that kills the heart of a target with three hits per second and a torc of necrotic touch that turns the hands of the wielder into something untoward. We just collected these things for the love of collecting, but we dread to think that someone might use them to win the contest - that kind of person having the full power of the castle behind them! It's terrible to think about!

That's more like it. Richfield thought.

"Well now, this does seem like a very serious situation. I appreciate your willingness to be open about the matter and I believe we can get the appropriate people to work on this straightaway."

"A champion, a castle and a quantum casino all in one day. All I need is Carmen Sandiego's phone number and I'll really will be king of the universe!

Congratulations, one and all! This is what happens when the forces of evil actually get along with each other for a change! Help yourself to 1000 credits worth of gems each from my personal stash. The rest we'll save for rainy days and the swimming pool.

Ingvar, as the richest dwarf in the world, I think it's best to grant you temporary custody of the casino. I can think of few people better to wring the millionaires of the multiverse dry. Last longer than Trump and we'll talk permanent rights.

For now, though, we've still got champions to slay! If I remember rightly, this castle is a lot more manoeuvrable than it looks at first glance. Let's quickly make ourselves at home and set a course for an assault on the God Prison. Criswell, can you supplement Dark Sein's spiel? What approaches do you recommend for, ahem, 'visiting hours'?"

VENGEANCE

Ingvar takes the casino and begins plotting.

Meanwhile you are filled in on what you are up against:

Sasha, one of the remaining contestants is accompanied by Tellu, Scarlett, the Being and Cyrus inside the God-Prison of Gidroth'Ilrak. Essentially, seven of the worst monsters and criminals in the history of the multiverse are contained within the body of a colossal artificial God. There is only one entrance (through the mouth) and the mouth is only accessible via a causeway from the chasm it is housed in. The God is impervious from the inside or outside, and through some dimensional nonsense you cannot teleport or phase into or out of it.

The chasm is itself guarded by a platoon of angels, who operate both rail gun turrets and have the usual flaming swords, and have installations surrounding the chasm, and inside the mouth.

Vengeance investigates the castle and finds that he can use some of the controls, but not all. He can manouver it slowly, and the defensive powers of the place make is functionally impervious to damage, but none of the weapons are active and it lacks any of the more advanced functions. That is, after all, the stuff this tournament is being fought over.

BEAR IN MIND
Even as Bear in Mind has deduced who is behind this campaign, the attack increases in ferocity.

The whole infonet is a buzz with trending funny videos of incompetent bears! Bears with their heads stuck in buckets! Bears drunk on stolen beer! Bears afraid of their own farts! Bears falling off trampolines onto their faces! Justin Bearber!

Public perception is shifting, and Bear in Mind feels himself getting more clumsy and the minutes go by!

Bear in Mind assembles the Bears Sans Frontiers, as well as his cyborg guinea pig and barbarian friend. Really by now he considers the last 2 to be Bears Sans Frontiers as well.

"Bears Sans Frontiers! Someone is making a mockery of bears! You, fellow bears, you are being discriminated against! You, barbarian, you know bears are divine creatures! We can not let them do this! David Attenbear, I need another documentary! Teach the people that bears are a diverse bunch, among them clumsy ones, but also highly respectable ones, just like any species! Barbarian, you join this documentary, tell the people how your people worship bears! Most of the people here aren't even aware of our divinity! Teach them! Guinea Pig, tell them how I gave your life a purpose after I found you at the start of this adventure! Do it!"

BEAR IN MIND

David Attenbear's latest documentary is sublime; if not quite his very best work, it is certainly up there in the top five of his long career. Bears come out of it looking magnificent and all of Melded is in awe of how great they are. Those internet memes are soon forgotten as it airs. Bear in Mind feels a surge of power and justice coursing through him as the whole city truely believes in his cause.

Now there is just the matter of actually winning this...

TELLU, SCARLETT, CYRUS, THE BEING AND SASHA

The group convenes on the location of the Brain aka Sikander...
