Oddestsey V: The Seven Lords

Cyrus doesn't seem to be responding, which makes Tellu even more perturbed. You know, if I'm going to have to do everything myself here, I don't see how he could be any help. Tellu thinks angrily.

The creature explains itself again, a bit more clearly. At this point, Tellu really has no choice. She can't turn away now, and concedes despairingly. She gulps.

"A-all right... I accept," says Tellu anxiously. "First off, do you know who Sikander is? Second of all, is he a "competitor"? Third of all, what crimes is he connected to?"

Tellu gulps again, afraid of what's going to happen.

Perhaps the oddest aspect of coming out into the courtyard is apparently in the time she was inside a big protest had gone on (which she hadn't heard) and various picket signs are left behind. Off to one, Dr. Richfield the Dimetrodon is pondering the answers to some questions from an Osprey holding a notepad and dressed as a stereotypical 1930s reporter. A few of the others are apparently inside including Durg.

TELLU AND CYRUS

The Many that are Ooglox lethargically shifts it coils and for a few moments the colours glow brighter. Then answers the following in it's weird languid memory speech.

"Do I know who Sikander is? That will cost merely the memory of the smile of a stranger warmly received"

"Is Sikander a competitor? That will cost is your second moment of true wrath"

"What crimes is he connected to? We do not claim to know the extent of them all, what I do will cost the memory of the worst pudding you ever had, the pain of stepping on something sharp, an unremarkable day in July and the frustration of waiting in a long queue."

Tellu mulls the first one over for a while. The other two she doesn't care too much about, but a stranger warmly received...

Who...

In the end, however, the two she could really see "warmly receiving" she had pretty much fallen out with, so she agrees to the terms.

TELLU AND CYRUS

Tellu agrees to the terms and the memories bubble to the surface - a stranger smiling in the street of Melded not long after she got here, a moment of pure incandescent rage though not the whatever had caused it, the pain of stepping on a pierce of shattered glass, a day in July of no great note and waiting in a queue at the facility at which she was made - for some tests perhaps? Then they were gone and she is left feeling just a fraction hollower.

"Yes I do know who Sikander is"

"Yes, Sikander is a competitor"

"Conspiracy to murder, hacking, virtual theft, hiring of assassins, hiring of thieves, unlawful domination of sentient AIs, fraud, weapon smuggling, war profiteering, conspiring to commit crimes with know supervillains, illegal data manipulation, blackmail, conspiracy for arson and 3212 known crimes categorized as bizarre or esoteric."

Interesting store. Scarlett tries to think of some innocuous word to turn into an acronym and settles on borrowing the name of her old friend from her less-than-legal days: Marbles.

SCARLETT

You receive the "Motion Activated Robotic Baboon - Lightweight Electronic Samurai"

A small box that can fit in your pocket that in a combat situation will morph into a robot samurai baboon at a certain programmed motion. It's mostly designed for defensive use rather than outright defeating enemies, but with it's simple gesture based control system it can serve as a very useful distraction in a fight and take out weaker foes.

"Okaaaaaayyy?!?!"

Something had happened here, something big. She had no idea what on earth had happened, but if some of the others are inside, she might need to go back.

She goes inside to look for the others.

The Being decides to send a communicator message to the others to see what they know and to see if they have any ideas about what to do next. Apparently, the tournament is demanding blood or it will find a way for more to be spilled. The Being would rather...avoid such unpleasantness.

"Just destroyed an army in the making with my friend Sir DeMerfrall. Looking at who the largest remaining threats are, we've pegged the Giant. It's caused a lot of destruction and who knows how many deaths. Does anyone have another suggestion and would anyone be willing to help us out?"

Bear in Mind uses his communicator to inform the other arbiters of the dangerous plan Lissa has to remove competitors from the competition.

EVERYONE perhaps most relevantly to THE BEING

Bear in Mind updates all the other arbiters on his discussion with Lissa.

Essentially, Lissa has found a way for up to three combatants to exit the tournament non-lethally. But the catch is it's a game of chance - there is a certain demon dimension that takes sacrifices in fours and will essentially disparate those 4 for enough time for the castle to consider them dead. The downside is that it will randomly select one of the four to die for real. All four can either go through the portal at once or one at a time, which will affect how the odds work, but it must be four in total over at most a 24 hour period or there will be an invasion of extra-dimensional beings called "The Four-Pronged Ones". If four combatants won't agree to or be made to enter, the numbers could be padded with one or more arbiters, but no one else will be suitable except combatants and arbiters.

This may well be the only way to get some competitors out without killing them - but it is very much by getting them to play a game of russian roulette.

QUINN
It seems like most have moved on except for Durg who is sleeping on the floor next to the buffet table while some small drones clean up around him. Both Ziggy and Sexy Grammar Robot are still present however.

"Oh good. Durg's manipulator/cheerleader. And Durg. Making a mess as normal. And another robot. After this whole tournament is over, I never want to see a robot again."

Quinn goes over to ask who the robot is.

QUINN
As Quinn had apparently been preoccupied with the buffet earlier, Ziggy (aka Ziggurat) repeats its backstory.

(The AI who ran/runs the surface functions of the Castle occupying the body of a Doomfauxall robot and has taken Axel's place in the tournament after Vengeance killed Axel. The whole tournament is kind of it's fault due to managing to trigger the "ownership of the castle protocol" assuming it would get control itself and thus it's freedom/protection from bad people getting control. Kind of went sideways when a) this whole death tournament started and b) wasn't even selected to be a competitor. Used the Doomfauxalls to try and angle the tournament in it's own favour enough to get to this point.)

Marbles always did have an odd fascination with monkeys, didn't he?

Now what? Scarlett vaguely remembers seeing a certain bear fellow by Lissa's birds earlier. Better go make sure they're not about to kill each other.
